Obviously not for the opposition players in the middle, but for a viewer, the Afridi munch has to be the most hilarious incident in recent cricket. If he’d trod on it like Stuart Broad did recently or even stabbed it repeatedly in the middle of the pitch, it wouldn’t have looked as ludicrous as this. The funniest bit is one of the angles with Asif, in which he appears to be chewing away while keeping one eye on the giant screen: almost like – if it’s not on there, no one’s seeing me doing this.
It’s quite a credit to Latif and the other Pakistani players that they didn’t kick up a fuss regarding the spectator-grab. While the incident in itself didn’t look malicious in intent, just think if this exact incident had happened in Pakistan to an Australian cricketer.
Apart from the phrases “third-world security” and “rabid fans” being bandied about, the repercussions would most definitely have been larger than what appears to be the case here. Especially considering it involved a tourist cricketer.
Makes you wonder about how much our preset opinions colour the way we perceive things.

I know for the longest time Afridi used a bat from MB called “Sher”, and honestly when I was watching the match and saw his act being publicized, he indeed looked like a lion going, “arr nawrr rawr” at the ball”.
the incident spoiled the match for me. I didn’t care much whoever won from that point onwards

What’s noticeable is that it seems like he did it TWICE!!! The first clip shows him biting when Rana Naved was bowling and the second one when Asif was bowling. Can’t believe he thought he could get away by biting the ball on two separate occasions, let alone once. What a dumbass!

That will only show that the PCB and Pakistan as country really care about this issue. I am a great fan of Wasim Akram, but when I see these things, it makes me me think what if he too did this. C’mon Khan, what does his century against India a long ago have to do with the current debate? They could very well say that Sehwag got lots of centuries AND remains very well behaved. The trouble is Afridi lacks judgment and is too hot headed. Raw talent is not enough. For all his skills he is still unreliable. One has to accept that & send him to a shrink.
On a related note, ICC should make sure that this issue is treated properly in the future so that people like Broad don’t sneak through. The mere appearance of double standards will raise other issues. Broad, like his dad, has always been “naughty” as they put it, but the matter was poorly handled.
