Watch cricket highlights: Australia vs England 3rd Test Day 2 from Edgbaston played on July 31, 2009.

Scoreline: Aus 263 all out | James Anderson 5 wickets, Onions 4
Eng 116/2 – Strauss 64 no.

Swann doesn’t bowl a single over today to maintain his tally for the 1st innings at 2 overs, Broad is given a cursory farewell spell and Flintoff’s various parts are mostly protected. Cos England didn’t need them, with Anderson-Onions fetching the 9 that fell today.

On the other side, Siddle penciled himself as the man to be replaced by Lee in the next test, while Johnson spent most of the day in Ponting-designated protective zones (like just before tea or end of play) trying to put the ball somewhere near the stumps.

That’s great stuff from Onions and Anderson to seize the initiative. But not polishing off the tail still remains nemesis for England. Anyway good job done overall.
    Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great day for England!! What a over from Onions followed by a great spell by Anderson!

  3. Slight concerns going into day 3 about the fragility of the middle order, but nevertheless a fantastic day for England. Let’s hope Bell can put on a big score, and England can get to 375 + to put some pressure on the baggy green 2nd crack. Still, my money is on a draw with rain looking the most likely winner. Broad needs wickets or an unfit Flintoff to play at Headingley

Great played by Andreson and Onions. Now England is under control. Shouldn’t mess up at this point. Strauss great form continues and hope he scores a centuary. Its all depend on the partner on the other end if eng has to win. Ian Bell got chance now and I hope he will score. But Eng has dependable batsman Collingwood and Freddie. Engaland can win and make things more worse for Aussies…

    Wonderful package again. Thanks admin!
I heard that Warne laid right into Buchanan in his commentary right before play got started after tea. Any chance you could put that up if you have it?
In general, I am quite impressed with Warne’s commentary. He spices up proceedings a fair bit, just like he used to in the middle.

  6. Admin, which is the best team to play swing bowling?Apparently warne and holding said no team plays it well.If not, who are the best batsmen

The biased cricket that I’ve watched – Even the best like Tendulkar and Lara have had issues with swing at times, though they’ve also pulled out great knocks in swinging conditions. Sehwag is someone who transcends pitch and other conditions. Have seen him score with ease when the technically superior Dravid and Tendulkar have looked uncomfortable.

  7. Yeah, excellent day for England. shame we couldn’t skittle the last two wickets faster, I have a feeling those 60 or so runs that the last two added will be costly. Bell looked exceedingly nervy as he was trying to get settled (I didn’t see the 6 off hauritz coming) but he was coming off a lot more confident towards the end and Strauss was excellent as usual.

  8. rudi koertzen is to australia what steve bucknor is to sachin.

  9. Wow – England’s bowlers were something special today! Well done. But having said that the Australian batsmen should’ve held up a bit better – that was a huge collapse and some of the wickets were a bit soft. But not taking anything away from a fine example of swing bowling by Onions and Anderson.

Thought Johnson was a bit unlucky not to get Bell at the end – that was plumb. Strauss batted well again.

  10. Was Kuertzen asleep for that Johnson LBW appeal? How else could he have not given the appeal? But then again he is South African. The Australian selectors have stuffed up yet again. The score indicates why you shouldn’t replace recognised batsmen with all rounders

  11. Its ALL Reverse Swing……

  12. Great effort by England with the ball. Not sure with the bat though considering we have a middle order of Bopara and Bell. Bopara’s technical deficiencies have been ruthlessly exploited in this series (except for the 2nd innings in Cardiff). Bell must make most of his reprieve towards the end of the day. England have to get a hundred run lead to put any pressure on the Aussies.

Draw is still the most likely result considering that rain is forecast for large parts of days 3 and 5.

  13. strauss 64 helped england to score 116 he is a no 1 batsman

  14. brrilian bowling by onions n da morning n briilian rewerse bowling by jimmy anderson at the end

  15. great bit of bowling not so great batting playing two wide
