Watch cricket highlights: Australia vs England 5th Ashes Test, Day 2 from the Oval played on August 21, 2009.

Scoreline: England (1st Inn) 332 all out
Australia (1st Inn) 160 all out: Simon Katich 50, Watson 34 | Stuart Broad 12-37-5, Graeme Swann 14-38-4
England (2nd Inn) 58/3 – Lead by 230 runs

Stuart Broad and Mitchell Johnson entered the international scene in ODIs roughly around the same time – a year maybe this way or that. Both made a big impact in series vs India early on in their careers, and in those series seemed eerily similar in mentality to champion players in their sides (Flintoff and Lee). Johnson took a while after that to seriously impact the international scene, while Broad had some of the worst situations occur to him (Yuvraj and the Netherlands final over). In this series, Johnson awoke late while Broad appeared to get obligatory spells before fading into oblivion in each game. But luckily for the two, they had strong captains who backed them and in Broad’s case some luck too (Flintoff’s injury for the Headingley test that allowed Harmison in without Broad being out). Consider in contrast, the situation of India’s best all-rounder (Dhoni not being included here) – Irfan Pathan – who apparently was not even worthy of making the 30 probables for the Champions Trophy.

The best part about the Broad-Swann duet was that they got the wickets rather than the Australian batsmen giving it to them. Some poor umpiring choices, but while Broad was on, it appeared like a wicket was on offer every over he came on. Katich however looked impregnable up until he got out – from hating him I’ve changed to – What is this thing. Is this human.

Expected Ponting to seize the day, but disappointingly, he was edgy right from the start. Now that the test is destined to not go through 5 days, what would be the perfect climax for the neutral viewer would be – England dismissed midway tomorrow, and a 275-300 run chase set up rather than a waiting for the end sort of 500 + target.

I suppose the only thing unfortunate about the timing of Broad’s spell is the handing-down-of-Flintoff’s-scythe-to-him-talk that’s going to flood every column.

Pre-play: Is this Ponting’s day

    @drk and diehard
Must be a lot of Aussie (team) haters flocking the videos. Also, several so-called highlights sites also use these videos, so add that bunch too. More users devouring a video at a given moment = problems plus slowdown – Admin

  12. G Singh says:

    Hi admin,
thanks for the effort for posting the highlights. But there some problem, the video is not completing its 9mins of streaming.

The 3rd vid is only around 8 mins long, if that’s what you’re referring to – Admin

  13. DirtyPixel says:

Think he may be referring to vid 2. I only get 61 seconds then it stops. Really appreciate the work, but would be great to see those 5 wkts go in vid 2 ;-)

Try a refresh or a little later – those are the only pearls of wisdom I can offer unfortunately – Admin

  14. DirtyPixel says:

…would probably help if I was looking at the timer and not the score! I actually only get 32 secs of vid 2

  15. Arun says:

The video 2 is streaming for about a minute and then it stops and goes back. Admin – please look into it. Also, the streaming is soooo slow today

  16. subbu says:

Thanks for providing videos of international cricket across the world. For the last two days, not able to watch the highlights. Getting error that access is denied.

  17. kraky says:

not able to see the highlights video2

  18. Omar says:

The highlights stop after a few minutes, all 4 of these. I have re-loaded, re-started but it persists. Could you pls look into this?
    Many thanks

  19. Rick says:

Firstly, many thanks for putting up the highlights. :)
But I am also having a bit of trouble with the streams too. The first 3 seem to get stuck half way through and won’t buffer. Would really appreciate if you could check em out :)

  20. Shafkat says:

I wonder why my videos stop loading after a while. Internet or computer speed is not an issue (I work at a US university and have the highest speed possible T1/T3; computer is also fairly fast). Maybe the quality of the videos are too good? I see that other people are also having issues.

  21. Saqib Siddiqui says:

Videos 1 and 2 are stopping after one or two minutes….I think a lot of people are watching it. Will try later…BUT THANKS A LOT FOR ALL THESE HIGHLIGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. G Singh says:

Everyone loves when ponting & boys are at lossing end.No matter which side they are playing with.Arogant ****bunch of dogs

  23. Ecka says:

LOL! England has scored one century in 5 tests and none of their bowlers have more than about 12 wickets. That’s woeful! The series result may say one thing at the end of this test, but the reality is England is outclassed by Australia.

  24. alewis41 says:

Thank you, thank you for posting these clips!

  25. cmon aussies says:

    hey admin
2nd video stops halfway through and i cant see the rest. is there a problem?

PS other than that these videos are great . thx

  26. admin says:

As I said earlier, many sites other than this using the video, a surge of people on the video and the video site is bound to start wobbling. – Admin

  27. windigo says:

Pathetic batting performance by Australia. They did the same thing as a team several times versus the Saffies in Oz, where they just fall one after another like bloody dominoes. Seems that one or two of the early bats get a little jumpy then the mood infects everyone else. Especially weak is the way that some of them, Ponting included, play spin, standing in place and letting the ball dictate instead of going on the back foot or going out to meet it on the half volley.

Anyway, it’s premature but Broad looks like the man of the series for the Poms for performances with the ball AND bat. It’s not often you see one bloke take over a game and reverse the momentum completely like that. Congrats to him for cementing his place in the side for a while to come.

Still, Oz, as inconsistent as they are, may well come out and score tons in the second innings to win, as it looks like they have England jumping about a bit now. But then, maybe Broad’ll come out and knock a century of his own and put the total out of reach.

Great fun to watch and thanks MUCH to admin for posting clips, as always!

  28. misty says:

Great job admin. I really appreciate your effort. Keep up the good work. And great bowling Broad, never seen him bowling like this.

  29. Daveo says:

    thanks Admin.

Oz a little unlucky with some of those decisions, but Watson should’ve been out early and wasn’t, so it all evens out. Broad was very good.

  30. Ghulam Mustafa says:

This is not Australia,s time to win the ashes now time has come to crush the Australia.I think Ricky Ponting should be retired he should give the chance to youngster.

  31. arun says:

why its buffering for a long time previously it was fine f**king site

  32. mb says:
