Australia vs South Africa 3rd Test Highlights Day 2

Watch cricket highlights – Australia vs South Africa Day 2 highlights from the 3rd Cape Town Test played on March 20, 2009.

Scoreline: SA 404/3 – Ashwell Prince 150, Jacques Kallis 102 no

A major portion of the post-tea session are missing due to telecast conflicts with the Eng-WI series – the 2nd video has H/Ls of the last hour of play

An amazing hundred by Ashwell Prince in his makeshift new role as opener for South Africa. Years ago in his debut match, also vs Australia, he’d scored 40 odd and looked so damn impressive as the rest of the team fell away. The next few years saw his game begin to drift towards the boring sort and hopefully this is the kind of cricket he’s going to pull out in coming matches. His approach was emphasized yesterday when he smashed the 2nd ball he faced from Bryce McGain yesterday for six despite end of play looming. Kallis who joined him today was forced into no-scoring mode through some testing short-pitched bowling from Johnson and the others. That was probably the best spell Johnson bowled today. The arrival of Bryce McGain however changed everything with first Prince smacking him for 3 boundaries to get to his hundred and then Kallis eating into whatever was left of the IT chap. I just got to know about the IT thing today – apparently he was working as an IT pro till the age of 35 (he’s now 36). McGain in the process earned a dubious honour – the most runs conceded by a bowler in test cricket history on debut (with a minimum of 10 overs bowled) – 102 runs off 11 overs. Only Australia probably have the nuts to pick a 36 year old whose first-class career kicked off late and has only 21 matches in it. But sometimes it does seem nuts with someone like Jason Krejza discarded – despite the runs he conceded, his abilities and temperament during the 2008 India tour gave him a long-term prospect aura at the time.

De Villiers who was not out with Kallis belted it around and was looking really good and aggressively inventive – which he is when he’s playing at his free-best.

As an Aussie living in the USA, I thank you. Cricket gets no coverage here. Aussie got smashed today – ahh well – good for cricket to see Australia not getting everything it’s own way. Poor McGain – he copped a hard debut – but so did Warnie :)

Thanks again and hope you can continue your great highlights.
