Australia vs South Africa Day 5 Highlights 2nd Test

Cricket highlights: Watch Australia vs South Africa Day 5 highlights from the Durban Test.

Australia won the test, in the end quite comfortably, to take the 2009 series.

Scoreline: SA 370 all out. Jacques Kallis 93, AB de Villiers 84. Siddle and Katich 3 wickets apiece.

Any hope of a draw was snuffed out quite early in the morning session and eventually the game was wrapped up before tea. Good knocks by de Villiers and Kallis though, in the context of the SA 2nd innings.

Australia have been down over the last season, and you’d hope they’d take from that feeling and not repeat the annoying moments of their earlier reign. That would sedate all those who feel an adrenalin rush at an Aussie loss. Cos the fact remains that cricket viewers truly enjoy players like Ponting, Lee, Johnson, Hughes, Bracken, Symonds (if he ever comes back), repeat telecasts of Slater and even Haddin. Of course, Michael Clarke has his own fan following but this blog remains indifferent.

A super day for Ponting – look out for his post-match interview at the end of the video. As an Indian cricket viewer – ya, there have been days when we’ve hated him like during the SCG test, but as an old adage goes – form is temporary.

    Hey Tapan,

Australia last toured India in October 08 (only 4 months ago) and were beaten in the 4 test series so I’m not quite sure what your comment means. The ICC future tours program shows India touring Australia again in December 2011.

Ausralia are rightly ranked the best team in the world and have held this title against SAF without Lee, Clark, Symonds, Watson or a specialist spinner. When they are full strength and find a good spinner they may well dominate for another decade.

India have many senior players who will be retiring soon. Kumble already gone. Tendulkar getting old but still the best, Dravid over, Laxman etc. Soon they will face a problem similar to what Australia did a year over the last couple of seasons with the retirement of Gilly, Warne, Magrath, Langer, Martyn, Hayden.

It remains to be seen if India can challenge Australia with a new team.

    Hi Ape,
Ya, i know. I enjoyed that test matches very much.I enjoyed the new rivalry very much.
Actually i want to see india at number 1 place as soon as possible. For that India has to beat Number Uno australia. I know that they are the best side right now, but the margin is not too much, & i think india is the only team that can give them answer (fire with fire).

I know senior player will retire soon. But, i think india has their replacements are available. There are many Ranji players that can take place in indian team. For e.g. Rahul dravid —– cheteshwar Pujara ( if no politics happen…….)
