Watch cricket highlights – Deccan Chargers vs Kolkata Knight Riders from the IPL.
Scoreline: KKR 101 all out: Brad Hodge 31. RP Singh 4 wickets, Fidel Edwards 4-1-6-0, Pragyan Ojhan 4-14-2.
Deccan Chargers get there in 13.1 overs: Herschelle Gibbs 43 (26), Rohit Sharma 36
No dancing Shah Rukh Khan today – rather, it was dignified-will-sit-in-the-stands SRK mode. There was a funny moment when Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar were on air towards the end of the game and Shastri launched into Buchanan’s 4 captain theory while Gavaskar maintained a I’ve said all I need to say already silence.
While I’m a big McCullum fan, the truth is the best captain in the side is Ganguly and as long as he’s in the team, you might as well use his experience being possibly India’s best ever captain. When Shane Warne dismisses Buchanan’s theories as text book school kid stuff, and when Buchanan talks of the book Art Of War like he should have co-written it, you kind of know Warnie’s right. Or Shanie as Younus Khan calls him.
The KKR innings pretty much fizzled out once McCullum and Gayle went with all the Deccan bowlers at it from the start. Edwards at one stage had the ridiculous figures of 3-1-2-0. RP Singh – one of India’s best T20 bowlers – and Pragyan Ojha kicked off their Season 2 quite well. Ojha in fact was one of the finds of IPL 2008. In fact, his domination over Dhoni in Season 1 could have well been the prime reason for his entry into the ODI squad while other finds like Abhishek Nayar never came into the reckoning.
Gibbs batted through and yet got to face only 26 deliveries while Rohit Sharma who pretty much dropped himself out of ODI reckoning recently, looked once again in sparkling touch. Look out for a VVS Laxman six off Ishanth Sharma. Yesterday it was a dog holding up play in the Mumbai-Chennai game. Today, a malfunctioning light tower delayed start of play by over an hour.
KKR fans can relive Brendon McCullum’s 158 no in 2008 here
Pre-game: So KKR have a new captain – Brendon McCullum – what happened to the 4 captain thing. Or is McCullum the first of 4. Or are there 3 other hidden captains who will pop up in a crisis.
