England vs Australia 1st Ashes Test Day 4 Highlights – 2009

I

Watch cricket highlights: England vs Australia – the 1st Ashes Test, Day 4 from Cardiff played on July 11, 2009.

Scoreline: Australia (1st Inn) 674/6 dec – Brad Haddin 121, Marcus North 125 no
England 20/2 (at Tea, Rain takes away final session)

Poor morning from England as they laboured around the field as if weighed down by heavy raincoats under that England shirt. Australia on the other hand took on the morning like there were 6 full sessions of play left – cautious and selective. Eventually, when the rain did come by Tea, Haddin had accelerated the lead to 239 and England were 2 down.

When Haddin first replaced Gilchrist, there were many (like myself), who hated him just because he’d done that. And also cos he looked like an Ian Healy experiment with some wild oats. An ODI series in India (2007) was the first time Indian viewers stopped groaning and slapping their foreheads at the sight of Haddin with a bat. In that series, he and Symonds were the only ones who looked consistently decent against spin, and today, England’s decision to delay spin may perhaps have been influenced by him being around. Maybe. If so, pointless, cos that would be like Dhoni resting himself every time Vettori’s around.

Thanks!! Who said that the Australia side is on decline?

4 x 100’s in 1 innings? That’s incredible! The Poms have got nothing – esp. considering this’s the weakest Aussie team to tour there in years.

I hope for cricket’s sake, the series turns out to be a bit more competitive. Maybe weather will help England like it did back in 2005?

I must admit Bopara was a bit unlucky. But I’m glad Hilfenhaus is getting it together.

    Thanks again Admin – appreciate!

You are right about the 4 x 100s being incredible. Some fantastic batting. I think all the hype has put the English under pressure at home giving us a shakey start but we will pull through. Some great cricket to come. Cricket’s the winner all round!!
