England vs Australia 3rd Test Day 1 Highlights

Watch cricket highlights: England vs Australia 3rd Test, Day 1 from Edgbaston played on July 30, 2009.

Scoreline: Aus 126/1 (30 over final session after a delayed start) Shane Watson 62 no, Simon Katich 46

Fore-play: Two changes for Aus – one shockingly ridiculous (Hughes out) and the other, hardluck (Haddin breaking his finger minutes before play started after a slushy ground allowed only the final session of play).

England bowled wide and short for the most part and as Warne said on air, appeared to be sitting on their haunches waiting for Flintoff to get the breakthrough. Watson through all this looked comfortable like he were munching on a bit of straw, before pulling out his array of very-watchable strokes.

Simon Katich meanwhile continues to flick needles into a voodoo figurine of me as I sit around spellbound, unable to crib about the crab.

Pre-play: Cricinfo (update: It was Hughes on Twitter that first apparently broke this news) springs the ridiculous news that Phil Hughes has been dropped to make way for Shane Watson. Watson is good to watch, but to believe that Flintoff has Hughes figured out and to actually dump him is the most desperate move in recent cricket.

why oh why are the dumb aussies not choosing stuart clark? he usually takes 2 wickets per innings and theyre usually top order bastmen as well. hes the highest rank aussie bowler in the team, hes been taking wickets every tour game too. And yet, they keep choosing siddle ad johnson who are both having terrible series. if the aussies lose this series (apart from the toss and umpire decision which are beyond control) …it will be because they made poor team bowling selections. The batting is not the problem, they can always make big totals batting, its their bowling thats going to lose it.

hey thx Admin – much appreciated.

Good to see Watson seize the opportunity – he did very well. Always thought he had a lot of potential – hope his body holds together.

Katich did well too – he is a tough character – not the prettiest batsmen, but does the job well.

I hope and pray to every God in existence that the Australian bowlers give Flintoff some of his own back – Chin music and intimidation. He is a good player, but he’s a bully and deserves to get roughed up in return. I’d like to see him cop a few @ 150km/h on the helmet and the chest.

agree with dumb_aussies. why is Johnson in the team? He’s been piss poor and looking like a lost puppy. Stuart Clark should have been in, especially given that this is a batting track and control on line and length is a must.

Great highlights as usual admin :)
