Cricket Online TV Forum FAQ

COTV Forum Specific Usage

You can update your profile and choose the privacy option to determine who gets to see what about you. Eventually as more users sign up, you will (hopefully) be able to better interact with users here.

Groups: At the top of the page (Navigation Bar) you'll find a section called "Community". CLick on the small arrow next to it and have a look at the Groups. A few generic groups have been created. You can join as many as you wish. It will show up in your profile and will possibly help you interact with specific users here

Forums: A few pointers with regard to posting - If you decide to register, you can post your thoughts in any forum and initiate discussions (Threads) on your own. Only the "Match Discussions" forums will not be open to new discussions (Threads) for obvious reasons. However you can post your thoughts on the game there, like in the usual comments section of the site. For those unfamiliar with forums - You can also subscribe to a thread to be notified of any new posts made in that thread, enable threaded mode etc

While starting a discussion, please take the time to consider which specific forum or subforum to post it under. So for example, a general thread you decide to start on the Aus-NZ series would be better off in the "Aus Tours NZ" forum rather than in the Aus-NZ>>Match Discussion forum. Similarly a discussion on the Mumbai Indians would be better off in their sub forum than in the IPL main forum. The idea is to make sure a visitor is able to read things in as organised a way as possible

In an attempt to toe the path of least offence to the average user, NO abusive language will be allowed here. So something as innocuous as "X is a dumb di*k" also will not be allowed because it becomes too much of a nuisance to start grading levels within abuse. The simplest solution has therefore been adopted here: do away with it completely. Even a word like sh*t won't be allowed because it can be used to stir up users by referring to a particular team as sh*t

It goes without saying that any vicious racist, political or religious posts will be deleted. However, culture specific taunts etc might be allowed depending on the context and usage - for example, Indians and Pakistanis or Aussies and Kiwis will generally-speaking not be offended by common terms exchanged among themselves/between them unless someone from another culture jumps in and uses the same term against them. It's a shaky way to start this, but will see how it goes and decide on whether that too is stomped out of here.

Anti-a-specific religion posts has already been covered above. The opposite also holds good. Please also don't post material promoting any specific religion/community/culture/nationality/race wile talking cricket. Mild references are ok, but any references to alleged racial/cultural superiority being the reason for one team winning or calls to God to support one team against the other will be removed as it offends the sensibilities of users belonging to other cultures/religions here. Besides, you will agree that there is not a single nation on this planet which comprises people belonging to only 1 culture/religion. Try and embrace multi-creed and multiculturalism (at least here) as a truism of our times that merits sympathetic treatment.

IMPORTANT: Forums which are country specific are meant for supporters/cricket-spirited fans to post their thoughts. So an Indian user popping up in the Pakistan-cricket section and yelling Pakistan team sucks is pointless (and vice versa) and will be removed. However, this kind of stuff if kept within non-abusive levels will be allowed in the series/match-specific sections as it will be considered a personal opinion on the game. Warning: based on previous experience with the site, it would be safer to wait for a team to fail before shouting ___ sucks or you could become the object of ridicule for saying so when the specific team's doing well.

Kindly resist the impulse to mock another user with regard to their articulation abilities or English-speaking abilities.

Have wailed enough. Hope you find your interactions with the cricket community here worth your time and energy. Have fun during your stay.
