Watch cricket highlights: India vs Bangladesh Day 1 of the 1st Test at Chittagong played on Jan 17, 2010.
Scoreline: India 213/8 Sachin Tendulkar 76 not out, Sehwag 52 (51) | Shakib and Shahadat 4 each
So Sehwag is to blame for all this? If you’ve heard him speak, it sometimes even seems like he’s belittling his own teammates, but that’s only because he’s one of the few cricketers who truly speaks their mind. There are probably many other captains (Dhoni included) who probably mirror his opinion but wouldn’t say it out aloud. If you take away the annoying feeling of someone talking you down, what did he say. That Bangladesh are an ordinary team – rather than getting pissed off about it, the team probably needs to think about why they’ve gotten into a situation where someone would believe and think this. Consider Sri Lanka – for years many believed they were an ordinary side. A World Cup win and Murali, De Silva, Sanath, Vaas and all later, everyone pretty much learned to shut their effin mouths.
To the Bangladesh team’s credit, they for the most part used the Sehwag comment to fire themselves up rather than lose it. Shahadat had a spectacular day and also mouthed what looked like motherf***er towards the Indian dressing room (Sehwag) after bowling Dravid. I don’t think any bowler has called Sehwag a motherf***er over the last couple of years and given that Shahadat is a pumped-up type of guy, the well-aimed kick too means that the next time he comes up against Sehwag will be an absolutely drool-worthy event.
Looks like a good series looms ahead if Bangladesh can keep the feelings going rather than indulgently focusing on this day alone. From what was on show in the ODIs and today, of the pacers, Shafiul looks like he might be the most successful for Bangladesh.
As for Sachin and Shakib – they do what they do.

I think the answer by Bang bowlers is quite in line with the remarks by Sehwag highlighting the Bang abilities – to me hats off to Sehwag whose underestimation of the opposition paved a way for Bang to perform well and at the sametime a good context between an ordinary & super………..

Bangladesh need to be consistent at least three days of the play. A very good batting display and same sort of bowling and fielding will do the job. Remember they are very strong and can comeback anytime. So, be very careful and don’t be sloppy in the field. Good luck Bangladesh. We are on the way to show them who are `ORDINARY`.

Game is definitely far from over. Although Sehwag merely, although harshly and unprofessionally, expressed his views on Bangladesh’s bowling attack, did go out and prove his point. He was let down by the rest of the batsmen…

Yes, there is not doubt that India will win the game. But Cricket is a game of respect, game of gentlemen. If someone don’t know how to respect the opposition thye should stay out of the micropone, infact they should not even play Cricket.

Yes, this was a good showing by the Bangladesh bowling department, but what makes anyone think that when this bowling gets the likes of Dravid, Laxman, Gambhir, out, the Indian bowling of Khan, Sreesanth, and Khan, won’t be able to do the same?
The last time I checked the best Bangladeshi batsman was Ashraful who has played 50 matches for under 2500 runs, and averages 23.10. Let’s all talk when the Bangladeshis bat.

Would the Bangladesh team like the usual response, filled with platitudes, from the opposing team capatain? (i.e. They are a good side and can defeat any side on their day). Or, an honest one.
Bangladesh is a pretty ordinary team, at best. But, they have the potential to become good in the future, if they work hard and correct their mistakes. India can become an average team in the future if they are too complacent.
Winners don’t whine. And, whiners don’t win.

Sehwag comes off arrogant and I can understand people being pissed off with him but the truth is that he really does not mean any harm at all. He does not understand diplomacy and only speaks his mind – his batting, attitude, talking and everything else is a sign of that.
He is not made for politics, not for giving presentations but being an amazing team player.
As far as the word ordinary goes – I agree it is insulting and that nobody playing at an international level can be considered ordinary but Sehwag’s comments are just relative.
And those who hate India can know that the game is not over because there is a second innings on the way. Those who missed out on the first innings in the Indian side are the likes of Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Gambhir and Yuvraj. So, good luck Bangladesh dealing with that.
One thing is for sure that I would be very impressed if Bangla can trigger another Indian collapse but with Rahul and VVS on our side – my money still goes to my country. Hopefully the wall will stay strong.

There are only few Indian cricket players who are arrogant. Majority of them has great craftsmanship in their skills and posses great personalities. However, in the press conference, Sehwag made a fool of himself. Now, even if India wins, he will be remembered for his immature comments. In retrospect, Shakib showed strong character. Though, we (Bangladeshi) do not have that many stars as other teams, a united Bangladeshi nation can upset any strong teams in any formats of the game.

Grow up, kiddo. The bowling and the batting averages of BD are poor because 10 out of 11 players in the team played less than 20 test matches. Look at Shakib, he has six 5-wicket haul in just 15 test matches. By the time he plays 80 test matches, he will have more wickets than Harbhajan. THAT IS NOT THE POINT. Everybody knows India is a better team than Bangladesh. The point is why can you not appreciate that Bangladesh outplayed India in the first day of the test match. If you deny it, then there is something wrong with you. Besides, it is not such a big deal if players in the team cannot speak English, at least no one in the team says stupid thing in a press conference. Though, Shakib is almost 10 yrs younger than Sehwag, he is 100 times more matured than him. When Sachin scored the century, in appreciation Shakib clapped suggesting great sportsmanship.
