Watch cricket highlights of the 1st ODI – India vs New Zealand – played at Napier on March 3, 2009.

Scoreline: India 273 in a 38 over game due to intervening rain. Virender Sehwag 77 (56), Suresh Raina 66 (39), MS Dhoni 84 (89). NZ 162. Martin Guptill 64, Ross Taylor 31

Sehwag went bananas like he has over the last year in particular and was matched by an equally potent knock by Raina (his best in recent times). Dhoni promoted himself to No 3 and a fascinating contest with Vettori ensued. Dhoni for the first time today in the last year and half showed some serious intent in rediscovering his hitting abilities and the helicopter-shot that had vanished made an appearance today. It was still littered with mishits but at least the intent was clear. Surprising however that Gambhir didn’t come in at all to bat. Ross Taylor pulled off a spectacular catch and that was that about that.

The NZ chase came unstuck with McCullum going early and Ryder unable to get going. Praveen Kumar and Zaheer Khan moved the ball around like mad, while Harbhajan Singh pulled out a few bamboozling deliveries. Dhoni had a cool moment as wicket-keeper vs Oram as NZ and the eventual result – a 1-0 lead in the 5 game series.

Pre-game: Any opportunity see Sachin Tendulkar back in action is a good thing and so tomorrow is a good day. The last 3 times he played he got rotten decisions from the Umpires during the SL ODI Series.

You’d expect to see a slightly humbler Indian team trying to redeem themselves in the ODI format. Should be a good series with Oram and Praveen Kumar (hopefully) hopping back into either ODI side.

    this website is useless. visit xxxx.com (sitename removed cos this is not Digg – Admin) if u r in india, it has live streaming. unfortunately for people abroad, not many sites. this does not even show highlights on time. whats the moderator doing?? going all the way to NZ to bring the tape? sucks!

    Thanks Bipin. Just want to clarify this for some people who seem a little confused. There is no magic button you press that instantly conjures highlights and also uploads them at infinite speed. Real-time viewing happens in live-streaming. So please be patient. In the case of ODIs and T20s, highlights will be up an hour after the start of the mid-innings break. For test matches, depending on the excitement-levels, H/Ls will be up after tea or an hour after play
