Cricket highlights: India vs New Zealand 4th ODI Highlights played at Hamilton on March 11, 2009.
Scoreline: New Zealand 270/5 (47 overs). Brendon McCullum 77, McGlashan 56, Jesse Ryder 46. India’s revised target 281. Rain delays finally end the game at India 201/0 in 23.3 overs – Virender Sehwag (125 off 74) – fastest hundred by an Indian in 60 deliveries overtaking Azharuddin (62), Gautham Gambhir 63. India win cos they were way ahead of the D/L requirement.
A couple of rain delays didn’t take too much away from the game, but another horrid butter-fingered day for India in the field today. McCullum and Ryder seem to be enjoying their stint together and pulled out a late charge after a cautious start. India got back into the game during the NZ batting powerplay with a few wickets but keeper McGlashan with inventive cricket in the company of Elliott nitro-boosted the NZ total in the final allotted overs following the rain delays.
The Indian charge was pretty much about the Butcher of Najafgarh doing what he loves best – cleaving and then shredding whilst preparing the finest mince NZ has ever seen.
Pregame: India won’t have Sachin Tendulkar following his stomach injury that prevented what-could-have-been in the 3rd ODI. For NZ, Vettori is expected to return and possibly curtail the likes of Yuvraj. Most people often miss out the fact that Vettori is one of the best spinners to have toured India – even Ganguly at the height of his spin-powers found it hard to seriously get after him.
