Watch cricket highlights – India vs New Zealand – 5th ODI, Auckland played on March 14, 2009.
Scoreline: India 149 all out (36.3 overs – rain curtailed 43 over game). Virender Sehwag 40 (27), Rohit Sharma 43 (74). NZ 151/2 in 23.2 overs – Jesse Ryder 63 (49), Martin Guptill 57 (50)
No Post-match presentation cos of loss of transmission
Session 1: The first seriously seamer-friendly track and everyone other than Sehwag (of course-cos he’s the one cricketer in the world for whom conditions are irrelevant) just couldn’t adjust to it or at least try and curtail their bludgeoning game. Unfortunately (personally speaking), Rohit Sharma had a bad game despite being the top-scorer. The timing and confidence was just not there and he ate up big chunks of the strike (esp with Yuvraj at the other end). O’Briend swung the ball like mad early on, then lost control, bowled a few wides and finally came up against Sehwag who took him apart. Ryder (9-29-3) and Oram (9-22-2) pretty much knocked the wind out of the Indian middle order once Sehwag was gone and one feels it will be some time before we get to see Rohit Sharma back in the ODI side. unfortunate, cos he seemed like the best contender for Laxman’s Test slot whenever VVS chooses to retire. Am really curious to see Praveen Kumar in these conditions and even as i write this he’s got McCullum. New Zealand should however win this, unless they mess it up.
Session 2: Jesse Ryder clouts Ishanth Sharma all around. The two get into a heated non-physical brawl. Ishanth sees Yuvraj put Jesse down. The two weirdly kiss and make up. Ishanth gets Ryder to inside-edge one but doesn’t celebrate at all.
NZ came out blazing. Pretty much what India tried to do as wickets fell. Only, New Zealand managed to pull it off. Guptill carried on after Ryder’s exit, displaying his fantastic timing that has been on show right through this year. Ross Taylor too found enough runs remaining on the target to pull out his legside stuff. A tough day for India but I doubt they’ll be too worried about a seamer-friendly track popping up in the Test series considering Tendulkar, Laxman and Dravid will be in that side.
Pregame: Lots of talk about India rotating players etc. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to give Irfan Pathan and Rohit Sharma a game without changing too much otherwise. For NZ, maybe it’s time for a Ross Taylor special leading into the test series.

Sahan, U r just crazy mate… India currently has the best batting ODI lineup in the world… but, their fielding still needs some work as we saw in the last two games… It’s not only me, but all my mates in UK think so too.

India have won their last 4 ODI series and last 2 Test series. They are the T20 champs and the only side to beat Austrlia in 3 test series in the last dozen years. (1998, 2001,2008). New Zealand are way off. With South Africa falling again, it’s back to Australia and India.

So, 3 games each so far. I really hope the Kiwis can pull something out of the bag in the tests. The way India collapsed today… it could happen. I’m surprised India won the one day series. Not many teams beat NZ in NZ, so good on them.

I agree with the fact that Rohit Sharma will replace VVS when VVS calls it a day but he is being currently treated in ODI’s in the same way as Dravid was early in his career, plus he didnt get to bat at No 3 in flat wickets in Sri Lanka, the one game he got to play was a seaming track. He did first impress in a very testing track in the T20 world cup, Dhoni needs to prove to him he believes in him like Dhoni backed Yuvraj Singh during his nightmare in Australia.

i think indian 1st down to last down should maintain good batting performance among all the countries in different pitches (either it is ODI OR TESTS) then only the indian cricket will become number one cricket team in the world.
