India vs New Zealand Day 5 Highlights 2nd Test

II

Watch cricket highlights – India vs New Zealand 2nd Napier Test Day 5 highlights.

Scoreline: India 476/4 – VVS Laxman 124 no, Gautham Gambhir 137, Yuvraj Singh 54 no. Match drawn.

With Gambhir eating up time and Laxman scoring as he normally does in the morning session, both time and the NZ lead were gradually wiped out until a stalemate situation forced the two teams to agree to a draw. Eventually, the post-tea session was mainly an exhibition in batting. Lovely hundred by VVS while Yuvraj helped himself to a 50 before calling it quits for the match.

Nope, doesn’t work – Wordpress is super – Admin

Pretty boring in the end. Kiwis needed a double strike to make something happen this morning. Dead pitch. Still, they’ve out-batted and out-bowled India in this game, and will be in a good place for the third test. Enforcing the follow-on was a win in itself – NZ hasn’t done that to real opposition since 2003. Bit of an embarrassment for the ’stars’ to have to block out a draw ;)

NZ did really well… Very well indeed.

I hate it when India tries to play it safe and draw matches… that is not at all how TEST matches are played.

They should have accelerated the scoring initially and set a target of around 200 in 20 overs and ask NZ to chase.

That would have been fun in every aspect of the game.

Congratulation India. I hope India has learned a lesson from this test match. Never take your opposition team for granted and never show over confidence in yourselves. Big lesson to learn for Yuvraj as well. He thinks that he is the future of India and India is nothing without him. He still needs to work very hard to establish himself in test match. Karthik was a BIG dissapointment. He is no way even near to Dhoni in his professional approach. He is still a kid like parthiv Mehta who needs to be matured. Kudos to Gambhir/Dravid for saving this match for India. Gambhir has shown that he can bat according to the situation. He is currently India’s best player be it in 20-20, One day or test match.

I feel kind of sorry for Kiwis, who had to field and bowl for three days. Oh my god. They must be highly relieved once India has offered draw. They will have their body muscles in pain for few more days. But this test match will give them a belief that they can beat India.

  18. madmax says:

guess NZ was missing a genuine strike bowler.. like shane bond… its a shame he cant play for NZ just cuz he played in ICL?

  19. Daveo says:

well done India for making a draw. VVS was great – just like 1st innings. Enough can’t be said about Gambhir’s innings – if he did not play the anchor role so well and for so long, who knows how the game would’ve ended?

I kind of wish NZ had won though – would have made the series more interesting. I agree that NZ really needs a strike bowler. Whatever happened to that really tall allrounder you had – not 2 metre Peter Fulton – another bloke? Can’t remember name – he did well in West Indies World Cup last year.

    Anyway – congrats India.

I’m a huge fan of Indian cricket team. Similarly I’m a huge critic too. 1st of all India’s bowling in the only NZ innings was awful along with their fielding(again which has been an issue through out this tour). even if the pitch was flat and dead whatever u still gotta bowl right. they seriously need to rethink their bowling attack (i guess M.Patel should be under the scanner as he hasn’t established himself completely yet). they will really have to work hard on their catching. for bowling, stick to plan if someone life Ryder is scoring at 4~6 runs an over bowl a -ve line frustrate him, same goes for McCullum and others (if u see thats what very compatative teams do if they cant chase u down, they make u chase them).

Overall NZ can take quite a few +ve from this match and play harder in the next test. On the other hand India should also work on their weaknesses and come out hard at NZ, showing the intensity to win the test match & the series, defending wont help and i know this Indian team doesn’t believe in defending too. so looking forward to the next test match.
