Watch cricket highlights: India vs South Africa Day 2 of the 2nd Test at Kolkata played on Feb 15, 2010

Scoreline: SA 296 all out.
India 342/5 (lead by 46) Virender Sehwag 165 (174), Sachin Tendulkar 106 (206)

The perfect day of cricket to piddle on jibes by fans of other sports who seem always doubled over in laughter about how cricket takes an entire day/5 days to have a result. If Sehwag-Tendulkar had batted through (painful as their exits were), it would have been another lopsided day of cricket with the result swinging one way. Now with a lead of 46, depending on who the morning session favours, a result for either side is on.

Morne Morkel was probably the best on show today. Steyn did get in a few good overs in a row to Tendulkar post-lunch which emphasized two points: 1. The manner in which an attacking batsman (Sehwag) can change the way even the best looks on a day; 2. The best bowlers seem to bowl at their best to the best.

The Sehwag knock was a reinforcement of his oft-befuddling statement that he only hits the loose balls. Barring the reverse sweeps to Harris and a couple of other shots, most of his boundary shots were actually shots played when the ball was in the loose-ball zone – a zone solely applicable to his game. Eventually his strike-rate fell below hundred mostly at the hand of Harris-over-the-wicket, but this tempering of his game was also influenced by Tendulkar’s constant words and a little more consistency in the SA bowling post-tea. Which brings one to a confusing aspect – should he have been advised to go easy. If he shouldn’t have been, the counter to this then arises with SA getting back late into the game – exactly what the rationale behind go-easy had warned about.

As horrible a feeling as it was to allow in, watching Harris initially bowling around the wicket was quite enjoyable because even though he went for runs, there were many a time when he was able to counter The Butcher despite his cleaving intent. Was therefore surprising when he eventually resorted to his pus-laden line – good thing Ian Gould was strong enough to prevent the day’s play from petering out into a farcical mess. Incidentally, Harris was wided so many times that he’s created a record for the most number of wides conceded by a bowler in an innings ever.

I’m thinking Harris’ tongue-popout to Ishanth yesterday has oddly made him less of a candidate for the cricketer-you’d-love-to-ritual-murder.

first of all im not a pakistani….so stop cursing pakistan without any reason you retarded indi fans lol…well it was a good day for india…but ill wait till the last day, because the game has to long way to go… i was just trying to say that SA and australia are much better team than INDI…if you compare any department like batting, bowling or fielding between indi and this two teams…they are much much better than team indi!!!!so they deserve to be number 1…dont say anything about bangladesh though…i know right now they playing their worse game and they have to improve their skills…bt im not comparing INDI with bangladesh…as a big cricket fan im comparing INDI with those two teams!!!i hope peoples who can understand cricket will be agree with me…peoples who mixed patriotism and cricket together i dnt want to explain them anymore…
i see lots of indi fans curse me and use some street language…__________________________..soo what can you expect from them???im able to abuse them in the same way…and i can use 3 different languages…1 is english, one is their native language (H)indi and in my native language bengali(what they dont even understand..lmfao)

  14. Shujath says:

I hope Indian Team wins this match and remains No. 1 but the Selectors should give chance to Players who are performing in Domestic season not by State Wise preferences.

  19. Pakistan says:

To Admin: Please remove comments from Moin. He is trying to abuse Indian fans regardless of cricket reason. He is doing second time in the same test match. Please consider my request and remove his comments from the site. Thanks for your understanding.

  20. Jeff says:

    Moin,
You contradict yourself a lot. The reason a lot of us (______________) get irritated by your ridiculous comments is because you appeal to us to use constructive criticism and not abusing Pakistan while at the same time you are abusing India and its fan through stupid statistics you make up. Trust me when I say that I could’ve posted something that is 50 times offensive to you and where you are from right now. However, I am refraining myself from doing so because I have a bit more class than that. Think twice before you decide to post up garbage and offend others while at the same time asking others to be civil.

    Jeff

  22. admin says:

@pakistan: since the comments section is open, everyone should be allowed to express themselves. However I request Moin to not have ‘annoy Indian fans’ as his sole objective or I’ll be forced to delete future comments.

  23. awin says:

thats wat i was thinking moin, how a stupid *****le can write like this, better u go to school and , know wat is india? even i can use 3 different languages. u cant get it………………… any how all the best india.

  24. Gaurav says:

India is going to win this test and for moin specially at least Indian players always played better cricket and we use to eat good food not cricket balls.

  25. mani says:

well done india good luck i like highlights for all matches
    thanks

  26. ASAD QURAISHI says:

Sehwag and Tendulkar should have carried the bat through the day. there successive departure might have just opened the gates for SA but still gr8 batting by the master blaster and master disaster go on India and show the world that you r real no. 1 side all the best

  27. ASAD QURAISHI says:

Laxman should have batted at No. 3 Dhoni is under utilizing players like laxman who has scored the greatest innings of all time by an Indian 281 Vs Auz at Kolkatta . Even after Sehwags departure stupiod Dhoni sent in Badri ahead of Laxman this is either pure childish or partiality by Dhoni

  28. Kevin D'Souza - Canada says:

C’on India, pull one back and tie the series. You can do it.

  29. slambamkabam says:

man this moin guy is really something isn’t it?…_____________________see i dont like doing this…but people like this moin deserve this…these people are just jealous…hey moin ur pathetic bangladeshi won’t even be second last in next 20 years…so be jealous and post up ur hate threads…thats all u pathetic people can do…same goes to these kinda paks too…

  30. Boom says:

    ha ha ha

  31. SPD says:

Moin, If ICC rankings say India is No:1 team then they are No:1 team, discussion ends there. Do you really think you are much smarter than guys who put forth the ranking system or the folks @ ICC?
    Really, do you think so?
Certainly your knowledge of Cricket, your level of education and your respect for cricket lovers does not appear to suggest that. Now, grow up and watch India Test matches since 2001 and you will understand, why they are number one team. India did not become No:1 overnight, it took a decade of consistent performances. if you want to go by your player “comparisons” as opposed to team performances–Please be my guest and compare the individual stats of each Player with any country and then decide.

I’ll not even go into your non-cricketing attacks, I feel that would be ridiculous. ____________________________:) I really pity you.

  32. Amit says:

    Thanks Admin….

    Thank you very much…!!!

  33. SPD says:

    ASAD QURAISHI,

You are right, even I felt that Laxman is being under-utilised in every test by making him bat with the tail.

However in this case though, I felt Dhoni tried to sandwich the two inexperienced players( Murali Vijay & Badrinath) with the experienced players on either side. It doesn’t look like it paid much dividends since both Vijay and Badri did not score much, but it would have been much worse for India, if they were next to each other in the batting order. Two quick wickets would have caused havoc.

    Cheers!
    SPD

  34. admin says:

@SPD, slambamkabam and Jeff: Have removed a portion of your comments as I’ve now deleted the offensive section in one of the comments here which caused some stir. I’m Indian myself and couldn’t care less if someone called me a richdog, watchdog or whatever and so allowed it. However, should have deleted it earlier – apologies for any offense caused to anyone in the last few hours during which the comment was on here

  35. D says:

I can’t believe the comments have been dominated by this whole “Moin” guy fiasco. He should chill but those bickering with him are actually encouraging him. I generally like reading comments because I get to share views and understand views ABOUT THE CRICKET! Its really childish to be bickering like this, I know cricket is more than just a sport in the sub-continent but I also know that respect and values are right up there as well. So even if it may be in vain I would like to remind all…Its just a game! The cricketers aren’t going to donate money to their biggest supporter! So all this venting and cursing is pointless. There is nothing wrong with banter, its part of the game but stop the damn bickering or at least follow it up with an analysis of the game!!

I’m actually beginning to rate Paul Harris alot (even though Admin doesnt rate him lol) He doesn’t have alot of skill and the pitch has absolutely little turn (Its sad to see pitches outside the sub-continent being better for spinners), he got stick but picked up a wicket and could have had 3, Ab missed the easiest stumping u will ever see…ever and he got VVS to edge 1. Am actually glad Ghambir got run out, it would be pissing to see him ranked ahead of Sehwag in the ICC rankings for more than a month…the real match winner!

  36. Sam from Las Vegas says:

The fighting spirit has returned to indian team.

  37. admin says:

@D: Actually, horrid a feeling as it was, i found myself enjoying it while he was bowling around the wicket – i think his tongue pop-out to Ishanth did it for me yesterday and of course the wides while over the wicket

  38. Mark says:

@ Moin: There are several of us who can abuse you in more than 3 languages, and there are plenty of Indians in Kolkata that can abuse you in Bengali too. You may indeed be a cricket fan, but you are obviously prejudiced against India. Put that petty jealousy behind you and learn to appreciate good cricket when you see it. Even if you think that India is not Number 1, they have played very well to get to that position in the rankings. Even if they messed up in the first test, their fightback in this test is proof enough that they are a very good side, regardless of the outcome of this match. As for South Africa’s batting being better than India, you have got to be joking. This statement is only worthy of contempt and does not even merit a response.

  39. Ronaldo says:

good work brother! n pls post part VI soon…
    Thankin u in advance…
    CR9

  40. rahmath says:

india must win the 2nd test and level the series, it is very pentastic period for india to achive the 1st rank.

  41. badjatt says:

moin, you need take ur finger and stk in ur a*s. if small fingers come to me. INDIA WILL WIN AND WILL STAY NO 1……………..united we stand.

  42. RAJ>>FRESNO says:

    sehwag on fire today

  43. Gopala Sataluri says:

Every one please pitty Moin..he is f**k in J**K and does not know cricket. He is just stupid and posing himself as knowledgable cricket follower. But he is just a j**k.

all I can say from his comments is he does not know cricket as sport at all..

  44. paki says:

India will win and will stay no.1 in test
    they deserve it

    go india f**k all haters…..

  45. sfomama says:

Thanks for the efforts to post highlights as we cannot follow the entire match being in PST timings.

  46. Jack says:

Gavaskar really showed what he is all about with his commentary. The batter makes a good sporting gesture by picking the ball up and tossing it to Parnell, and Sunny says “Don’t pick it up for the bowler. Let him pick it up. He might do some damage to his back picking it up, and your opponents will be one bowler short. Don’t do him any favours”. His mentality is stuck in the days when india were regularly walloped. As if they need their opponents to be injured to win a game! India are good enough to win on their own merits and we should not be criticizing good honest sportsman-like gestures like picking the ball up for your opponent. Shame on you Gavaskar. You are a disgrace to the game.

  47. raj_lanka says:

india can,t win this match as far as i am concerned abt indian bowling and SA has capable of saving or winning this match.

  48. Jay says:

hey admin..great work man.. i appreciate it…i wanna just say thanks fr some guys over here like..SPD and JEFF…u guys rule…. i would recomnd admin..to shut the comments part..as its getting to a criticism and all stuff..but i love it anyways coz people get united atleast for few seconds while they read some comments against our contry..neways thanks admin for great platform for cricket lovers..

JAck U r A Jack n the rest u know..!! He never literally meant it..U must have a sense of humor to get that..!! anyways It was a very well constructed innings by the little but the big man….N sehwag is our best batsman against the proteas….A blazing innings from him as well…I hope Lax continues his love affair with the eden gardens. :)

    thanks for the efforts admin.

  55. Indian made RSA fan says:

I am a big S.A fan and I born in india. India will win this match. In my opinion India is little better than RSA. But also none of this team deserve no.1. bcz india dont have gd bowlers and RSA has no gd batting lineup. In my opinion AUS will gain that spot, bcz now they have some very gd bowlers and batsman’s :)

  56. Green man says:

Lol at the random piano music which starts the last part :P

  57. s_d says:

badrinath was looking very much shaky…I don think he can be fitted for international game…

    (4 languages)

Apart from all that go and learn some cricket..nobody cares about no 1 ranking and all..u think players go home and think what they have to do to stay number 1 rank..or sehwag thinks that i want to get fastest 50…they just focus on cricket..

i am sorry for all my pakistani and Bangladeshi friends..who have to share the side of idiots like you…

it pisses me off to see people just Yak..when they dont get anything about the game..

  59. AM says:

    Moin..

u had to go to school to learn manners..???

@comparing india with australia or SA…

one cant compare teams like that..good on paper ,might still be bad on pitch..and bad on paper may do well in the field..
for comparison purposes there are rakings..

and i agree that India needs to improve their bench strength of our players..
u dont need to come up with stupid stats and comparisons ..u can just say it..(if you realize what is the issue..!!!)

  60. rambo pawar says:

hi mr moin bhai jaan y u stress /focul on india . india is right now icc no 1 team officialy . however it come from doesnt matter . if pakistan reach on that place u have right to debet on SA vs INDIA match comment .

  61. Gavaskar sucks says:

Kick that asshole gavaskar out of the commentry box,he is speaking rubbishness

  62. moin says:

@admin:thats not fare!!!u saying im annoying indians fans…whats about when they said some shits about other cricket teams???whats about the way they use their language…offcousre u can delete my post and i never gonna be say that you doing this because you are indian too…otherwise you didnt post my previous masseges…i love your site and also appreciate your all of your good work… but if you want me to stop giving my opinion about other cricket teams, than you should also ask those peoples to stop giving provoking comments about other cricket teams..

  63. AB Devil says:

While India look like they are ahead right now and should draw the series 1-1, I dont think India can galvanize cricket to the way Australia and WI did. India’s emerging batsman esp middle order look very inexperienced and vulnerable despite such impressive first class stats.
The big test for India is after retirement of Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman.

  64. WhiteMouse says:

  68. admin says:

@moin: No one’s asking you to say that the sun shines out of India or whatever man. If you read my request again, it’s to not post comments designed with the “sole objective” of annoying Indian fans. You can say whatever you want about the indian team – your comments will be published as long as they sound like something that you mean sincerely and not something said just for the heck of it.
    Happy commenting.

The same would go for anyone commenting on other teams and has been done here before – the last case being someone called “Salman Khan” who was going after Bangladesh and SL recently for no particular reason

  69. D says:

@s_d, Trust me if Badrinath doesn’t belong in test cricket, very few if any upcoming Indian batsman belong there and without a doubt they will all look shaky too. I think Badrinath played really well in the 1st match to superior bowling. Alviro Peterson may actually be the same level, its just that the Ind bowling attack (Zaheer apart) isn’t that good. Sunny is a true Indian fan lol. He gets so excited when and Indian plays a good shot and fights to hide his disappointment at times especially when the bowlers bowl a bad ball. He seems odd because most the other commentators try to remain as impartial as possible, but I DO WISH other commentators would also support their teams in the box. Just think how much more fun that would be (like Sky Sports FAN ZONE lol).

@Moin: Go to a shrink! If it’s a bad shrink, they’ll try to lay you which is a win/win situation for you.

  74. Sun Wulong says:

  76. Vignesh says:

Great match setup. Looks like a 1-1 series. Really disappointed with Badrinath and Vijay.

  77. Jeff says:

Anyone agree that Irfan Pathan should be on the team? Yes, he is not even a shadow of the bowler he used to be, but does provide India with a genuine allround option. His batting has always been useful. And on his day, he is capable of grabbing a few wickets as well. If Irfan does well with a bowl in a particular innings, persist with him; and if not, just use him as an all rounder. I really hope he makes a come back to the test and one day team. Thanks admin for the highlights!

    Jeff

  78. moin says:

God damits ur typin not facing some one in reality u morons need to get a serious life. …. As for ppl who can write and speak more then one language here is lil info .. i can speak Eng(slang) Bangla and clear hindy. its not something so big to talk abt. Hindy and bangla is preety much same.

As a gentalman i would like to ask everyone.. PLEASE do not bring or discuz about any country. And once again cricket played with round ball no one can gruantee its movement so even talented player fall back doesnt mean they are become useless. However… Just because u like a team doesn’t give u no right to talk shYt abt the other team. so please will you guys excuse me.

    —————–Please do forgive me if i hurted anyone feeling… by anyhow… :-) …. ;)

  80. Pokerjoker says:

India has always been a batsmans Team, batting has always been their strong suit, whereas South Africa are more of a fielding and bowling side. Sure, Soth Africa do haye competent batsmen, you need that to play in the top class, but they’re not as good as the indian batsmen. On the other hand Indias bowlers and fielders are not as good as the South Africans, right now it’s anyones game, and It’ll be a good one to watch.

I also notice that you guys are still bitching at each other. What the hell is wrong with you guys, why insult a guys country, or his people? What’s the point? Sure guys like moin aren’t pleasant, but then it’s up to us whether we take guys like that seriously, and I don’t. Just ignore the dude, and concentrate on the Cricket. Though there is one thing, I don’t know how his Hindi or Bengali is. But his English is terrible, and I’d feel better if he didn’t claim to have a mastery of the English language, because he simply hasn’t. So, moin, try night school, then get back to us, lol.

As to the match, good luck to both teams, and thanks for a great match. and thanks to admin for the clips, you’re doing a great job, and I appreciate it.

  81. Alan White says:

I think the teams are very evenly matched. South Africa have a strong top 5, but with Prince and Duminy out of form, a collapse is always on the cards. They will be stronger when Boucher comes in for Prince.
India are clearly missing Dravid and Youvraj, but their replacements, Vijay and Badrinath are both excellent players and will score heavily in future games.

  82. Roho says:

Totally agree with Jack, Gavaskar is being plain stupid and possibly it was that time of the day when as a comentator he had just run out of all possible ideas, so he came up with that shit ball picking stunt proving yet again that he is as lame as ever (that was so rude, looks like he needs some basic kindergarten etiquette training).

Also if you guys have noticed they were calling Kolakata residents as Kolakatans which sounded so funny and amusing. lol (by the way i am one of the proud residents but will manage to live without that pathetic term Kolkatans, not sure if any other residents are proud of it either)

All i can say abt todays performance is that it was an absolute honour to watch two of the cricket’s best known entities (top guns) playing at their peak and demolishing the oponent with such ease and elegance. Will stay away from the politics however just before leaving will make a crucial comment: Every team that hits that magic No.1 spot definitely has some charisma and equally well backed performance based stats so lets just respect that as long as it lasts and then respect the next one and above all Cricket is the winner not politics or the lame comments on this blog. ciao…
last but not the least, this site is a cricket heaven

  83. Roho says:

i think the level of commentary has degraded globably and it’s worst effects seem to be visible in Australia quite consistently, comentators like Taylor, Rihie, chappel, healy etc. seem to be day dreaming half the time and in the other half when they seem to be awake the comments are so gravely biased and one sided that one is forced to hit the mute button religiously time after time. Also noticeable is their level of hyper enthusisam which the batsmen fails to live upto 9 out of 10 times, god they can create some enigmatic false excitemtnt. If i could see planet earth on the verge of collapsing i would put these dudes on air and even if the tele was on mute the chaos would be unimaginable just looking at their faces.

  84. harlove says:

well i read someone saying in the comments that SA and AUS are much better teams then india in every department.man wake up and stop hating, there is no other team that has better batting line up than India, even though india’s bowling and fielding is not world class, india can take any opponent with its hell of a batting…you bring on anything wewill hit you out of the ground..just sometimes bowling bring India down..
