Watch cricket highlights: India vs South Africa Day 2 of the 1st Test at Nagpur played on Feb 7, 2010.

Scoreline: SA 558/6 declared Hashim Amla 253 no, Kallis 173, de Villiers 53, Boucher 39
India 25/0

It’s a good thing that someone on air finally talks of the possibility of dropping Harbhajan in the test format because it means that the thought will surely trickle down to his ears. If Yuvraj and Sehwag were made to feel dispensable a few years back, given that it’s now 2 years since Kumble left without Bhajji even coming close to donning his role, surely he can be given the same feeling even it were not actually carried out.

Amla looked set for another huge partnership for the third time in 2 innings while AB was around (the first being the one with Smith on Day 2 of the 4th test vs Eng). Incidentally, that period with de Villiers and the final 15 mins were possibly the most exciting today. But Day 3 looks set to kick life into this test.

Personally, I don’t think the test has been that boring. This pitch has more turn n bounce (still slow though) in it than any 1 o the dead pitches (that were not good for spin or pace) in the Sri Lanka series. The Saffers are not used to playing on such surfaces and did not back themselves to go gun ho until they were very safe, their tail is actually longer since pollock retired n JP is out o form, plus Kallis was playing for a double…selfish yes but hey, he deserves 1. Viru and co back themselves to just hit through the line n they will thus score quicker. Plus they are way better at spin. It’s basically up to Morkel n Steyn to be patient, they strayed on the pads too much so far.
