Watch cricket highlights: India vs West Indies – the 2nd ODI played at Sabina Park, Jamaica on June 28, 2009.

Scoreline: India 188 all out MS Dhoni 95 (130), Yuvraj Singh 35 (33), RP Singh 23 (75) – Ravi Rampaul 10-2-37-4, Jerome Taylor 9.2-35-3
WI get there in 34.1 overs: Gayle 64 (46), Morton 85 (102), Chanderpaul 18 (41) – Rohit Sharma 8-27-2

The ball was swinging around, of course, and Taylor and Rampaul did bowl well, but you’d back the Indian top-order to have enough quality to see that phase through. But quality often as we know isn’t enough and habits bred over the last year and a half on tracks that haven’t been particularly demonic came to the fore. Eventually, a situation tailor-made for Dhoni’s current batting role resulted and while Yuvraj was going it looked like the perfect partnership in a 7/3 situation. Yuvraj in this short knock looked better than most of his 100 + in the first ODI.

Dhoni has played a couple of important match-saving knocks with the lower order in test cricket and seems to have mastered the role. A very good innings by him in the company of RP Singh today – it might not have been counter-attacking enough to win the game, but could have looked so much better if Yuvraj had come off.

The WI chase after some initial excitement from Gayle petered out into a sensible but trudge-towards-the-target effort with Morton and Chanderpaul.

Dhoni’s handling of players has always been his strongest point as captain. Today, with Rohit Sharma looking listless in the field after a lean run with the bat, he gave him the ball (if I’m not mistaken, he hasn’t bowled since the IPL) – a twofold decision: 1. See how he reacts to a hopeless situation when his mind’s adrift.
2. Give him a role and importance in the team doing something he seems to enjoy doing.
The only 2 wickets to fall resulted and Rohit looked happier by the end of it all and could easily see a turn-around with the bat next match.

Pregame: Can’t see to many changes in either side – Dhoni has been sticking with Jadeja for two apparent reasons – the young guy shouldn’t lose confidence stuff plus to vindicate his decision in the T20 vs England vis-a-vis Jadeja. Shane Warne was primarily responsible for converting Jadeja who was essentially a bowler into a batsman. Even for Warne, this move worked only in IPL 2008. There doesn’t seem any apparent reason why Badrinath and Murali Vijay should be sitting out to accommodate Jadeja the batsman. If his bowling is tilting it for him, perhaps it’s time Nayar is given a fair run. For WI, Simmons hasn’t been picked in the squad for the 1st 2 ODIs, so Morton will probably get another game
Update: Ishanth gets a rest, while possibly the cleverest wicket-taking Indian bowler gets a game – Praveen Kumar.

    and yuvraj

India deserve to lose this series! Its shameful that we sent a second string side to Caribbean. West Indies tour is always tough and we keep missing out on experiencing these conditions. The players look too tired, no commitment from Gambhir, Sharma and bowling is mediocre. IPL will destroy Indian cricket with player fatigue and emerging politics.
MS Dhoni played a stellar knock and to all the Dhoni bashers stop with the nonsense and support our team and our captain!

  5. boring tour without test
and without sachin and sehwag two great batsmen in the world

  6. Farhan Azmat , Denmark

very poor batting from india…. welldone west indies

  7. Muhammad Islam

Win depending on strong ledership, MS Dhoni is not strong ledership. He has no control on players that is why India is going down from top. I think WI will win this series

  8. Indiarox

first of all thank you admin for this quicker and better new player….
2ndly @ muhammed wen india wins hes a strong leader and a few bad matches makes him week… hypocrisy…hes definitely one of the strongest captain in world cricket without any doubt

  9. hmm.... a thought

The simple fact is that India is going through a very bad patch at the moment…The best example of the Indian team can be taken from its opener Gautam Gambir. He has been playing non-stop cricket throughout this whole year. He looks tired and can hardly choose a proper batting shot. As we all know he is a very talented player, yet he isnt performing well. The same goes with the Indian Team. Im sure they will rebound back strong after this series, when they face SL and NZ. The team will be at its strongest again with all players in the team again.

@ Indiarox for u r kind info, sourav ganguly s da mst successful captain of India till now.Winning T20 world cup is not same as winning world cup(ODI),dese T20 wrld cup v saw dat dhoni’s mindblowin captaincy caused India to loose.i guess rohit sharma, ishant sharma startd thinkin themselves as big iconic players from now only.i want WI to win the series, dat wl b da ri8 slap 2 da face f da selectors.:-)

  12. Admin I must admire.. I love the videos on this site… I love your commentary and sensible views… This is a gr8 site with a fantastic spirit of cricket. Congrats and thks

  13. Sathish

Rohit sharma is the worst player. He not playing with right position. He playing and yielding highscore in fluke only.Dhoni, yuvaraj , Dinesh karthik , gautam , Harbaji were the good players..Please take the Rohit sharma out and keep Abishek nayar or some new players to the team.Team changes must be done wen the player not playing well on continous two matches except experienced players. So better give chances to others. And right choice to pravin kumar inside the team instead ishant sharma because he too not performing well continuoesly.keeping out from the team make the players to play with confident and hardwork to the team.please give chances to bhadri, abishek , murali vijay etc.instead rohit sharma.Am not forcely saying..if rohit play poor performance on continous two matches better give chances to others.Dhoni and Yuvaraj is the best players

  14. shameful performance from india. the worst team i have ever seen on carrabian tour. why the hell selector of indian cricket send the stupid players without international experience. shameful performance from the bowlers

  15. Muhammad Islam

soory guy @ Indiarox but from T20 indian team looks very offset.I feel that there is some thing wrong in dressing room.

  16. Indiarox

    @kunal
i guess somethings wrong with your info. I said the ‘strongest’ and not successful. And one failure doesnt make him bad. We have important wins under him. How did you forget the CB series with only Sachin as the senior player. It time to forgive him for the WC debacle and support ‘our’ captain. And as far as record goes Ganguly has better record in tests but Azhar is the most successful ODI captain for India. He has more wins and better win percentage inspite of fixing matches

  17. Ghuman

Poor performance in one match and every one is being caaterated; I wonder what would have been the response if India had won. I still think India will win the series. Dhoni is a brave captain unlike pretty much all his predecessors (Ganguly was ok).

  18. admin, are the england/aus warm up matches being televised?

No. Only the official games will be covered here – would have loved to have caught Lee yesterday but missed it. – Admin

  19. GOOD PERFORMANCE FOR WEST INDIES BECAUSE WEST INDIES
    GOOD AT BOWLING,BATTING AND FIELDING

  20. Muhammad Islam

@Indiarox,yes at first time they have good record but now they are propessional and good names so that is why now Dhoni has no comand on team.He looks scared

  21. boringggggggg

    Admin.. Please get a life…..

    Ok. Will try. – Admin
