Watch cricket highlights: Pakistan vs New Zealand – the 2nd semi final of the Champions Trophy.
Team Info: NZ – Redmond (had a great game in similar circumstances vs Ireland – T20 WC) for Ryder. Pakistan – Nazir back from injury for Misbah

NZ have been my personal favourites to make it out of their group and perhaps go further, but once Ryder was out, I doubt I genuinely felt they could go past the semis. So, super day for New Zealand cricket and its supporters.
The core of the NZ bowling attack is based on a combination of discipline and striking abilities (Bond, Butler, Vettori). So what was expected when Pakistan came out to bat was an effort to dismantle this discipline through attacking brilliance. Instead, what was on offer was a weak attempt at Younus Khan’s favourite cricket concept – partnerships – which he might well have stitched into the players’ pillows last night. Didn’t quite work. It has worked in the past (like the game vs India), so that’s the flipside to it. But it never really looked the right approach against this bowling attack.
The next was the assessment of a fair total on the track. To come up with 200 indicates – underestimation of the NZ batsmen/overestimation of the Pakistan bowling attack/a genuine case of misreading the pitch – or a combination of all three.
NZ on the other hand took the other approach. To start with, their bowling except at the death got it right – even Mills had his head screwed on for a change. And when they came out to bat, the glimmer boys looked to attack the Pakistani bowlers whenever possible, while the partnership kind of guys (Vettori, Elliott) put on a partnership. In the end I guess, it came down to the definition of roles for players and how only one side got it right today.
The controversial aspect of ball tampering was once again woken up in a Pak-NZ game with Simon Doull this time going nuts on air, ranting on without any attempt at subtlety.

LOL@ these Pakistani fans praying for their team to win. When I was a child I used to also pray for my favourite basketball team to win the NBA championship. Then it hit me one day: Do you really think God gives a damn about who wins a sporting event? Is sport spiritually important? Will be interesting to see Bond vs Aussie batsmen in the final. They haven’t seen Bond in a long time. Bond tore them apart in the VB series in 2001. NZ often seem to save something special for a game vs Aus. McCullum in particular has been belligerent against Aus. Aus should win but then again I thought Pak should win today.
Suddenly a profound feeling of sadness has hit me regarding Pakistan loss. I feel a bit sorry for Younus Khan. I really like Younus Khan. I hope Pakistan’s isolation ends soon. I’ll not count West Indies match because the WI players were in-experienced but they troubled pakistan alot.

It was a great game and in the end the team which played good won the match. The team selection of Pakistan made a difference to the result. Yonus Khan is a good and spiritual captain who united Pakistani team but he doesn’t deserve a place in the team. Even at the start of the game he laughed and said I am unfit and still playing. Pakistan team need to make few changes for future, need to drop Imran Nazir, he is a good player but not at Int’l level, he should be playing only at ICL. Salman Butt should be brought back and Misbah should be in the playing eleven. Rana Naved is also good for nothing. Since Asif is back he should be playing and the bowling compbination should be Aamer, Gul, Asif and Ajmal. Good luck Pakistan for future. An Indian but love both India and Pakistan. I know and understand it’s early days to say but I see another great Wasim Akram in Aamer Best of luck Aamer and don’t become part of dirty politics.

Well, a lot of commentators and writers will have egg on their faces – New Zealand is always a danger in ODIs, and to write them off shows a lack of cricketing knowledge. I still like Pakistan as a team; they lack the arrogance of the Indians and English, and they will do well over the next few years. NZ, PAK and SL will continue to battle for position after the big three (AUS, IND, SA), while ENG, WI and BAN will continue to make up the numbers in 7th, 8th and 9th. Looking forward to the final.

Pak was constantly appeal for all strikes on the pads all game, the VAST majority of which were stricking well outside the line.
Don’t blame the Umpire. Read the definition of the laws of cricket. The batman can not be out if the ball strikes outside the, when playing a shot.

@Yash: NZ has won the Champions Trophy in the past. In fact they beat India in the Final that time. If I recall correctly, that was played in Kenya. Cairns hit a century.

By reviewing the highlight i could not believe that in semi final match sooo much opportunity for run out, a drop catch, bowling line has been left to go in vain. Come on now dont ask how auzzies are such a tough team watch their previous games. Believe it or not they actual study each players style bowling and batting. Google it and make your self aware of. There is no such thing such as fear of a strong team,good players etc. It depends how you measure strength and defeat the odds. Trust me if you really see a “INTERNATIONAL TEAM DEFEAT” then it has to be an “INTERNATIONAL TEAM”. This is no offense for Pk team but a simple logic to be considered for all teams. And yes! if someone says or thinks what would i do or he(you) will do?? A simple answer either u didnt understand what i just said or it belongs to those who runs the business….

Having watched the videos, the only poor decision was the inside edge which was adjudged LBW during Pakistan’s innings. The Pakistanis were appealing for a lot of balls that were landing outside leg or hitting outside off – they were all quite rightly given not out, and the replays confirmed that. Face it: NZ stepped up and outplayed Pakistan in all aspects of the game today, and were deserving winners.

A lot of the Pakistani appealing for LBW was over the top. Yes a couple unlucky decisions for Pakistan, but most games have that. And Akmal’s shot was high risk and pretty poor – so he didn’t help himself.
In the end Pakis just didn’t get enough runs. (though the last 2 bolwers batted very well – esp. the young bloke – what a champ!) Younis’s dropped catch off Elliott was a critical one.
I think all these calls blaming the Umpires are a bit narrow minded.
NZ better on the day – deserved to win. Thought NZ bowled very well.

Two main reasons why Pakistan lost this match:
*Poor Batting display once again; wrong decision to send Malik early. Pakistan lost last six wickets without much contribution with some help from Simon Taufel (Commentators were wrong; There was enough doubt in it but since it was not Ponting or Sachin batting at the other end and it was Vettori who was appealing not Rana Naveed and in view of all this umpires are humans enough to make such mistakes).
*Pakistan fielded poorly; missed numerous run out chances at very crucial moments and missed couple of difficult chances Younis himself dropped an easy catch (Trying to catch it like an Australian but had no clue that this is poor technique for a knee high catch.)
PAKISTAN APPEALING:
Pakistan appealed excessively that prevented a couple of close calls to go their way.
^To Pakistan’s credit everyone of you now saying that NZ will beat Australia since they beat Pakistan … i think NZ can do it but only if Australia play below their usual standard otherwise it looks like another all Australian final.
Lastly i would like to say a few words about most of Indian fans here and some Indian commentators in this competition who think that India or SA would have been better opposition for Australia … I am sorry guys I don’t agree with you as far as Indian team against Australia is concerned. Don’t forget that Australia was cruising to a mammoth total before rain spoiled that Aus vs Ind game, otherwise it was most likely an Australian game and a rather shameful exit for Indian team from this tournament.

pak won the toss against india, and elected to bat on a good batting field, that’s one main reason pak won. playing chase, india lost sachin and gambir.
on a good day, india can beat aust anywhere. pak LOST to aust AND new zealand, and now all the pakis are crying foul. the pak bowling had 2 byes, 6 leg byes, 6 wides, and 4 no balls. in other words, aside from the poor fielding, their bowling was atrocious.
Match is already over. Some lbw decisions for and against went against Pakistan and also some sloppy fielding lead to their demise. I think Asif should have been played instead of Raja.Ranam a good run giving machine. Pakistan should protest for not having Mr- Tufael as umpirem since Australia was in the finals.

I belive the main pakistan lost because of yunis khans captainship. he picked the wrong bowlers to bowl at the wrong time. he should not have bring naved ul hasan so early. he should have stick with ajmal and put in shhaib malik untill 46 over than ha shuld put in gul and navedd ul hasan.
it was bad captainship by younis that is why we lost. if you need to take a wicket put in spinners in a batting pitch not fast bowlers. bringing naved ul hasan was bigg mistake. spinners are pakistan’s strength.

take umar gul out? if you want to take him out you must really not know your cricket very well. Gul is one of the best bowlers around thesedays and pakistans batsmen just couldnt help support their fantastic bowling. As for bad decisions go, yes there were some bad decisions and the U. Akmal one was the worst and i was expecting much better from simon taufel as he is probably the most experienced and best umpire in cricket today. All in all, tough luck for pakistan but good performance (we’ll get nz in the series coming up

NZ is one of the best team after australia in the world, Pakistani team and captain really under estimate the Kiwies, Pakistani players were so overconfident to beat india but thats not the end of the game Pakis need to do more hard work and stay away from politics this is the humble request from every Pakistani citizen, plz no politics and no match fixing. we love pakistan and we don’t want to let down the flag of Pakistan by involving in the politics and match fixing.
I wish NZ win this CP Trophy, my prayers are with the Kiwies and especially with one of my favorite player named Shane Bond (James Bond of the Cricket)

Admin are you a pakistani? Coz whn ever a pakistani makes a bad comment about other teams you dont ask them to SHUTUP. But when others are replying to pakistanis bad comment you say ‘do not make anti-pakistani comments’.
Play it fair Mr. Admin. if you scroll-up you find many anti-newzeland or anti-indian or etc………….. You need to delete such comments first. Be a fair moderator!!!!!!
I’m Indian firstly. The anti-Pakistani team comments are allowed as long as they don’t drag religion in an extreme way, just as with comments involving India. Personally, am an atheist, but I can empathize with the feelings of believers and so have requested users in the past to not comment thus. Similarly when India was knocked out, I posted a similar comment asking users to tone down their anti-India rants, which I subsequently removed cos the comments toned down (either on their own or in response to the appeal).
Moderating comments is a burden I don’t particularly enjoy, but being Indian, it’s likely that I take users who are also Indian for granted. Sorry about that. As for other teams, what I’ve observed is users belonging to nationalities outside of the subcontinent are less touchy about their sport. So I maintain less strict moderation in their comments
