Watch cricket highlights: Pakistan vs West Indies from the ODI Champions Trophy 2009, played on September 23, 2009.
Scoreline: (Toss-WI) West Indies 133 all out Nikita Miller 51, Darren Sammy 25 | Aamer and Gul 3 each
Pakistan get there after stutter: Umar Akmal 41 no | Gavin Tonge 10-3-25-4. Two of the best young talents around on show today.
Before the game had even started many would have been shaking their heads hearing WI captain Reifer give SA yesterday losing chasing (on a totally different pitch) as one of his reasons for batting first. Then when the Aamer-initiated collapse happened, the shaking would have probably turned to a boisterous I-told-you-so. But eventually, considering the day the bowlers had with the bat and ball, much salvaging of respect for the West Indies.
Umar Akmal in the 3rd ODI and 4th ODI vs Sri Lanka had got a large tube of superglue and stuck himself neat on the Pakistan middle order. On both occasions, he’d displayed a multi-paced knock – not too different today. His first 22 balls yielded just 3 runs without looking in any discomfort, later slipping into free-flowing mode once Afridi joined him in the middle (as acknowledged by Umar post-match). Afridi had a sketchy day with the ball – his best moments today were however reserved for the post-match interviews – “He understands this, thank you”.
And Post-Match Younis is no longer missed.
Preplay: So the alternative West Indies squad again – considering how they played the Bangladesh spinners, looks like most barring maybe Travis Dowlin will find Afridi/Ajmal a little hot to handle. One would have thought that given the current situation in WI cricket, they might have considered including 16 year old Kraigg Brathwaite in the squad, given the amount of buzz around him a few months back. Afridi will be helming things for Pakistan after Younis Khan’s finger injury.

Had yesterday decided to shut down comments here after things got messy – have had this experience before during the T20 World Cup. One wonders why did West Indian Cricket Board even decided to play a team at all. This is not champion stuff. They really made a mockery by sending this the weakest of all the teams from the Islands.

As you said all of us are entitled to our opinions – The only reason for deleting comments here is that many take offence and then it becomes a who-can-pull-out-the-biggest-turd-piece fest in the comments section which becomes a pain for me to manage in addition to making highlights, dealing with bipolar video sites, and general site-maintenance
once again, windies cricket is going 2 steps back. instead of the icc popularizing cricket in argentina,china,usa etc. why dont they take care of the member countries…even if it mean stepping on the local authorities if its for the greater good of the game. bleh…money ruins everything.. and women… but i like women.

that’s was great bowling from Pakistan side, aamir is progressing, west indies lower order performed well, and they got some earlier wicket as well but at the end good captaincy from shahid afridi who took the team to the win. thanks to ALLAH.

@Manoj – Youtube processes the clip despite it being live – so if you were to watch it a little later (perhaps an hour later) – the quality would be better. I put up the clips in their immediate condition, cos there are many who don’t care about the quality as long as they can see the damn clip. Dailymotion’s been having problems since yesterday so have to do with this for a while
pakistan bowling attack looks in sync but batting needs work! poor shot selection…. overall a good game

West Indies cricket tactics sucks. You never play an entire inexperience team. There was no one with the ability to stay in the middle to whether the storm. Come Selectors you can better.

I am a die-hard cricket fan in Europe, I always watch highlights on your site BUT I always miss one important thing – POST MATCH CONFERENCE…I think its a very important aspect after the game, it helps us understand the mood of the team, their tactics going forward etc etc…

After 10 years in the american-cricket-wilderness and prior to that a globe-trotter, I have, starting with the Ashes, watched more cricket in the last 3 months than in the last 25 years.
