Watch cricket highlights – Rajasthan Royals vs Bangalore Royal Challengers – from the opening day of the IPL.
Scoreline: Bangalore 133/8 – Rahul Dravid 66, Kevin Pietersen 32. Rajasthan 58 all out. Anil Kumble 3.1-1-5-5
Oh, the irony of it all. Test player Rahul Dravid and former Royal Challengers captain takes his team out of a 0/2 situation (with support from KP). And then the forcibly-retired Anil Kumble cleans up the last 5 wickets after Praveen Kumar and Jesse Ryder set up the humiliating defeat for the Royals. It was also ironical that Bangalore who had suffered a similar loss on the opening day of IPL 2008 (primarily due to Brendon McCullum’s 158 no) were able to get one back on the opening day, the next year around. Dravid on reaching his 50 stuck his bat out like a horizontal middle-finger – surely it wasn’t at Vijay Mallya. Funny sarcasm from Dravid at the Man of the Match presentation in the 2nd video.
The two greatest leggies of all time were on show today in all their retired pre-retirement brilliance.
Pregame: Mohammed Kaif will not be a part of the Royals having been sent back from SA after playing a practice game there. Warne had shown a lot of confidence in Kaif in Season 1, playing him in every game (if I’m not mistaken), despite Kaif doing practically nothing. Guess with Shane Watson being available at least for a while, and the likes of Dimitri Mascarenhas, Tyron Henderson and Graeme Smith around in addition to Yusuf Pathan and Ravindra Jadeja to bolster the middle order, Kaif didn’t fit the bill, which is unfortunate for someone who appeared to be such a terrific find for Indian cricket a few years ago. Bangalore will be under new captain Pietersen – not necessarily the best captain in the team (still feel Dravid is the better captain), but Bangalore’s looking much better this time around with Ross Taylor having some middle order support from Jesse Ryder (if he plays) and one of the best sights in T20/ODI cricket – Robin Uthappa.

I agree that Pieterson is not a good captain. It looks like last year the business men were not sure whether the IPL idea would sell ..so went abt pleasing the “cricketing fraternityy” in India as well as the mass public. Thus the 3 veterans + 1(guess), made captain last time(Saurav,Rahul and VVS).However now that they know it sells..they have discarded the 3 unceremoniously and gone to the other extreme of being “Professional”.But the execution of the concept seems flawed.
Making Gilli skipper may make sense… i have no idea abt Mccullum captaincy skills.. However when it comes to Pieterson….he has had some traumatic experiences as the England skipper before he was deservedly relieved. He has not played the IPL last time , has admitted(or maybe unconsciously revealed throuh his captaincy decisions) that he is not yet confident of his 20/20 abilities. However being a class player, he should click as a batsmen. But the thinking that went behind making him the RC captain is the same as it was before. It is based on “reputation” in the guise of professional this time. The idea smacks of a club run by a stubborn businessman surrounded by a bunch of “cowering yes-men” who would rather keep their jobs than risk a contrary cricketing opinion. But hey !!! I would be happy if the businessmen lose their money, cricketers make money and i get to watch some good matches Free!!!

where are highlights?
To asdf: your tasteless question “where are highlights” only reinforces your heightened delusioned sense of self importance and entitlement. Did you mail your $100 check to the admins? If not, then wait your turn.

raja you need some lessons in modesty and grammar
Great one. Cheers Guys
I think Rajasthan s middle order needs a stabilizer like Kaif. Going for niraj patel instead is really ridiculous. Warne has made a huge blunder here
they need shane watson back
The B’lore innings is cut-off at 5min(probably due to different video hosting). I want to see the much talked about Rahul’s celebration
