One of the greatest games of the decade with inspirational and gambling instincts at their highest. Two of the best captains of this era – Shane Warne and Sourav Ganguly right in the middle of their teams’ fortunes. KKR seems to have really messed up sacking Sourav as captain because when he’s not captain he tends to remain overtly serious keeping his passion and emotions bottled up. A brilliant knock by him in a wildly fluctuating game – the other batsmen around him kind of messed up by not giving him the bulk of the strike but despite his exit off the 2nd last ball, a super knock.
Warne – there’s little much else to say – the videos pretty much cover everything about him. This game was a prime example of how someone can make another human pull out stuff even he thought he couldn’t do. From Raut to Kamran Khan Warne was at the centre of it all – the only person he didn’t see the need to constantly inspire was Yusuf Pathan (who’s already had a season under Warne). There were moments in the game with Warne taking his chances when Graeme Smith looked relieved he wasn’t the one making those decisions. And that dive by Warne to restrict Ishanth’s power-drive to tie the game and force a Super Over – a case of a guy so totally in the moment, he almost wills the ball to come to him so he can be the one to stop it.
Pregame: After their game vs Mumbai was washed out, Rajasthan badly need a win to start the defense of their title, while Kolkata will be hoping Gayle and McCullum can knock the wind out of Munaf and co.
