Chennai Bat
Bangalore Bat I
Bangalore Bat II + Post Match
Watch cricket highlights of the 2nd semi-final from IPL 2009 – Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Chennai Super Kings.
Scoreline: Chennai 146/5 – Parthiv Patel 36 (27) – Praveen Kumar & Kallis 4-26-1
Bangalore get there with ease in 18.5 overs – Manish Pandey 48 (35), Rahul Dravid 44 (39) – Muralitharan 4-15-1
So Nos 7 & 8 from 2008 it is this time. That’s as ironically brilliant as it gets. Oh, apart from Dactaru Vijay Mallya’s rant to a slobbering anchor (in the 3rd video) about Anil Kumble’s captaincy. Muchkond startingindha yaak-kodlilla?
A couple of decisions in the Chennai innings by both captains were befuddling. To start with, Kumble didn’t bring himself on and in his absence, Parthiv Patel blossomed (ugh). Then Dhoni came in ahead of Suresh Raina (who apart from Hayden has been the most freely scoring batsman for CSK). Ok, so MS is going to seize the game. Fine. But neither did he seize the game nor did he hit a single boundary in his 28 off 30. if at all anyone should have come in ahead of Raina, Albie made the most sense considering he’s been wasting down the order. This move also meant Badrinath might as well not have been picked in the playing XI, cos he was the best choice if the alternative to seize-the-game – a right-hander steadying-the-innings was the proposed intention.
Manish Pandey in his 48 today looked even better than he did during the latter half of his hundred vs Deccan and I suppose it was a mistake to assume at the time that the hundred was the peak of his cricket career. A super knock by Rahul Dravid that was as important to the chase as Pandey’s – just like in the Deccan game, Dravid being around seemed to help Manish focus better. Ross Taylor yet again produced two crucial bangs when things were getting a wee nervy, but my personal favourite moment was Virat Kohli’s six off Murali with 18 needed off 14. Muttiah was drawing to the end of a brilliant spell and considering the ability of a team captained by Dhoni to win close games, it pretty much let everyone know that Bangalore had finally lost the fear of losing – so apparent last season.
Just reading some of the comments, I suppose it’s more a question of Dhoni accepting certain changes that have crept into his batting rather than a problem with his captaincy. But then, heavy lies the crown and some might argue that understanding your own game as captain is as important as understanding that of your teammates.
Recall: 1 each to either side: Bangalore vs Chennai 1st Leg (CSK win big) and Chennai vs Bangalore 2nd Leg (RCB win thriller)
Update: Bangalore will bowl first after winning the toss – Kallis is in despite injury worries in the last game vs Deccan. Vinay Kumar comes in for Akhil, while Jakati replaces Ashwin for CSK, with Hayden too coming back in place of Bailey.
Pregame: Chennai to a large extent owe their run to the Hayden starts but you kind of know what to expect from them – a very high sort of plateau. Bangalore on the other hand have found individual brilliance (apart from consistent Kumble) to bail them out on several occasions and are therefore in a way unpredictable. The only predictable thing is Kumble attempting to take out Hayden early and perhaps. Perhaps. Uthappa doing well today, going by his past performances for India in crunch big games. He owes that much to himself considering he’s had only 1 good knock and been called a bhe*ch*d several times over by teammates for his efforts in the field.
nice job buddy..
Hey Guys,
have you been able to post the highlights as yet?
just checking since its already past 11:30 .
thanks
damn, thought I’d written 00:30 IST – apologies
Dhoni should b given Man of the match award for banglore win.. it was a memorable knock in T20. i doubt to grab T20 trophy agin under his captaincy, unless yuvi and sehwag will perform well.
Heh..my prophecy almost coming true! BRC shud win it tommorow!
Chintan baba i agree with you that Dhoni has made mistakes..and that yeah he was the main cause in a way for this RCB win..but carrying ur same argument along.. cannot understand ur thinking abt Mr Sehwag who gave 25 runs in the semis in one over and Yuvi who did not even reach the semi-finals performing well.in T20 world cup.as Captain….Dhoni is still the best bet we have ..but he has been acting a bit too funny with his decisions like playing Parthiv(hes good for the 30s but not a matchwinner..), wasting Badrinath,a priveliged guest “Oram”, depending heavily on Murali….and as sombody pointed out his team seems to play like “they have to win” while the rest eg..Mumbai Indians….RCB ,DD, DC seem to give their best but at the end of the day are happy to have a good time and make a quick buck from the businessmen.. i would say Kumble was the better captain…he outfoxed Dhoni…todai. However if the T20 WC is a disaster and its due to Dhoni bungling up.big time..then we may have to look at a new time..
Ziranov, i totally agree that Dhoni was best in last Worldcup. But i have doubt regarding upcoming one. See, in semi it was not sehwag’s fault, it was Gill’s day. if it was not sehwag then it wud b another bowler. All bowlers smashed back over the fence. Regarding yuvi, he dint enter to semi, but his personal contribution was 100%.His 2 hattricks and 2 50s tell u more. But, i havent seen player who played 30 balls in T20 and havent smashed the boundary. Totally mis managed the bowlers and batsmen. Other teams tried but dhoni thrown away the game.
Chintan n Ziranov, u can not blame dhoni or anyone by just taking 1 match consideration. Dhoni has played so many match winning innings and his strategy has worked in 80% matches. Dhoni has been d best captain for indian team so far.
only 1 thing that i dont like in this highlights, malya kissing katrina. i dont need to think that they might have good night, too.
muchkondu modale kottidre, we would have been defending champions
PP… jokes apart kudos for Manish, he has shown maturity at 19yrs and has prooved today that his 100 was not a fluke
@Jigar ..it can either be gnite for Katrina or gnite for VJM but difficult to have a gnite for both if they are together.
kudos to Bangalore! It was a wonderful team effort by the Bangalore.
One of difference between Bangalore and other teams is they are the only ones who are playing as team. They do not came to this stage just beause of one or two individual. everyone chipped in whenever it is required.
Three cheers to Bangalore!
My favorites for to left DLF IPL.. let see how things goes tomorrow.
VJM on the cellphone ..i thinking he was betting more money on RCB or CSK????
prabhu, Atlanta, says: hats off to RBC! What a awesome turnaround for RBC.. It is an answer for the people saying it is test cricket and not T20! I always believed Bangalore cricketer are high caliber cricketer…only thing was they weren’t able to get the right combination.. Whatever might be the out of come final I will say Bangalore royal challengers are the best team in this tournament.. Look at they way they played and always it is team effort and it is not because of one or two player..
I request Vijaya Malaya and other franchise owner.. please be careful when you give comment abt the cricketer and do not heart the sentiments of cricket fans. We knew you have put of lots of money in it and but at the end it is just game… Every captain will have there own style of doing, sometimes it clicks and some it doesn’t work out.
You have brought the KP with highest pay but what happened? So, once again I request all franchise owners non to give any unnecessary comments on the cricketer. Incase if you criticize player it should be constructive….
Anyways, It is nice to see bangaloru rocking! I bet on bangaloru bcoz they are better team then Decan…If gilly place like last match then can’t do much.. All the best for the both team! At the end cricket wins!
I m agree with jigar…I think dhoni is the best captain in india at the moment ……..we have seen no other are good enough to replace him ….one match loss or few mistakes shoudn’t question his ability as he has proven record satistics speaks for him!!!!!!!!!!!!
