The videos here feature Graeme Smith leading the chase, the winning moments and celebrations and interviews with Graeme Smith, Dale Steyn, Ricky Ponting, Brett Lee and Kallis.
A second straight run chase for South Africa and they do it again. The ease of the win with just 1 wicket down can tend to deny the time in the test match when they looked certain to lose it, but for a brilliant 166 by JP Duminy and Dale Steyn’s 76. All those years of pain South African cricket fans have endured as they watched their team stumble over themselves finally found some meaning at the MCG today.
Brett Lee looked in extreme discomfort today. As an Indian cricket viewer, it’s hard to understand some of the doubt over the future of a fit Brett Lee. To put this in perspective – when Mitchell Johnson played against India in an ODI series early in his career, the one thing that struck most of us who watched him was that rare yet oft misused term – Champion. And the standard used at the time was – he’s a champion sort of guy like Brett Lee.
Considering the Aussie way of selection, Matthew Hayden seems in serious trouble, though from an Indian point of view this seems ridiculous. Ageing Indian batsmen have been given an extended run and Indian cricket is the better for it. I mean, at least Hayden could provide some serious relief while watching Simon Katich bat.
In the meanwhile Tony Greig used the opportunity to rub it into his fellow Aussie commentators – It’s so convenient for Greig to choose a nationality to support. When South Africa wins, he’ll draw references to his birth country. If England does well, well he played for England. When Australia were doing well, he lived and worked there so he could stand on that side. When Sri Lanka did well, he’d go on about how his wife loves the country. And now in India, he works for the ICL, so that’s covered too.
