Despite the huge target of 546 and Smith’s absence, there was no capitulation from the South Africans and instead fine knocks by Amla to start with and later de Villiers and Kallis to see out the day. Technically speaking another 300 odd to get – but a draw is probably of foremost importance for SA until perhaps tea on Day 5.
