Watch cricket highlights: Sri Lanka vs New Zealand 2nd Test at Colombo, Day 2′s play – August 27, 2009.

Scoreline: SL 416 all out – Samaraweera 143, Jayawardene 92 | Jeetan Patel 4, Vettori 3
NZ 159/5: Ross Taylor 70 no

Barring a longish stutter while on 99, Samaraweera was pretty much what he has been over the last year, particularly against spin. Remains to be seen what he can pull out, outside of SL. The more you see of him, the more you think, Dravid has been a strong influence on him, despite not too many years between them age-wise.

The late success for the bowlers brought on some really attractive batting from the NZ top order that eventually burnt itself out. Guptill seems to be doing a Rohit Sharma with his career – looking super and then getting out. Ross Taylor provided and continues to provide some joy for Kiwi supporters, if that’s possible. Anyway, with McCullum coming in, a very watchable morning session tomorrow.

  4. r3ubs says:

    f**king useless bas**rds….
ive givin up hope for them nz’ers

  5. Basil says:

Yes, Thilan is a great player.

  6. Ranatunga says:

The guys were struggling against good length bowling. Sam’weera can hit the bad balls, but good balls he struggles to judge. The lanka’s, bar sangakara and jayawardene do not have a very attractive batting style.

  7. Ranatunga says:

Why is is that only the NZ’s can turn bowling all rounders into batsmen who can bowl a bit. Harris, Styris, Oram. Styris was a bowler when he entered the stage.

  8. thilan sameraweeran is not a great player,rifan…..new zealand bowling was not good, sachin, jasurya, ponting are the great player

  9. Munayem says:

i think samarawara was the best and murali was impressive

good luck to new zealand cos they are rubbish

mccullam was good too but not like lankan’s keeper

best wish to daniel vettory whose captaincy was like zimbabwen’s captains captaincy against Bangladesh.

  10. Munayem says:

i don’t think sachin, jasurya, ponting are the great player

  11. Basil says:

I think all of us are great players :-)

  12. r3ubs says:

hey Munayem mccullum is a better keeper…. but not as consistant with the bat… sooo sangakara is a better batter but mccullum is a better keeper…

  14. Rifan says:

hi,mohamed zohaib please look thilan samereweera batting style. i feel he is gread test player

  15. Ranatunga says:

Samareewar’s batting style has no elegance to it whatsoever. The man who came in middle order and was caught on the boundary, you see the way he played the hook shot, very ugly looking shot.

If there was one team in world cricket who I would like to bat against, it would be NZ. The bowlers are mediocre to say the least. Oram is 7ft and bowls at 120kmph.

  16. Basil says:

Samaraweera’s batting style may not be elegant, but it is very effective.
