Watch cricket highlights: Sri Lanka vs Pakistan – highlights from the 1st Test, Day 1 played at Galle on July 4, 2009.

Scoreline: SL 292 all out: Paranavitana 72, Angelo Mathews 42, Kulasekara 38, Pakistan 15/2

12 wickets on the 1st day and yet, over 300 runs were scored. Aamer who grabbed everyone during the T20 World Cup, once again dissed the concept of substantial first-class cricket experience required to perform on the international circuit. The other debutant for Pakistan, Rauf too looked good in parts but was more entertaining with his run-up. For some reason I kept thinking that, that sort of gripping-of-the-ball was more suited to a face like VRV Singh – like a milk bottle has been snatched from a kid to be consumed in secrecy under some tree. The SL lower order led by Dilshan scored at a good rate which meant that despite the fall of wickets, Lanka could reach a fair first innings total. Nervy final moments for Younis Khan, but considering Younis’ current form and with Yousuf set to return to international cricket tomorrow, Pakistan would feel things are not looking so bad despite the 2 wickets.

    It’s actually so refreshing to watch a bit of test cricket after all of that 20/20. I mean don’t get me wrong, 20/20 is great fun but watching Jayawardene hit some of those straight drives in his brief stay was just what I needed after a hard night at work :)

    Pakistani Test Squad

    Younis Khan (Captain)-> Took few wicket but failed with the bat.

    Abdur Rauf
    Faisal Iqbal
    Mohammad Yousuf

    Shoaib Malik -> Was the worst captain, he doesn’t deserver to be in the test match.

    Misbah-ul-Haq
    Kamran Akmal (WK)

    Khurram Manzoor -> Failde to impress in ist test match, lack of footwork and bad hand-eye coordination

    Fawad Alam

    Salman Butt -> Failed in 20/20 and PCB brought him back for Test team. He went for DUCK in 1st inning and then he scored 28 and threw away his wicket. what a loser.
    What was selector thinking? Why is he in the test team?

    What the hell is wrong with Pakistan Cricket Association(PCB)and team selectors? What would they pick Shoaib Malik for test match. He doesn’t even deserve a place in ODI team. Malik tried his best to sideline Fawad Alam but Fawad out smart him. Both Fawad & Asim Kamal deserve a spot in the test match.

    I thing they should give a chance to danish kaneria and abdul razzaq in second test match . Instead of khurram manzoor and malik.
