Watch cricket highlights: Sri Lanka vs Pakistan – the 3rd ODI played at Dambulla on August 3, 2009.

SL win and take the series 3-0 with 2 games to go in 46.3 overs: Mahela Jayawardene 123, Upul Tharanga 76
As a neutral viewer one almost wished a Pakistan win after their super batting for two reasons – to keep the series alive and also cos it’s pretty sick to see a team slip to rock bottom having just won a World Cup, whatever the format of cricket.
By the end of the game however, even a die-hard Pakistani fan would have been awestruck by the brilliance of one of the great ODI hundreds. The amazing thing about Jayawardene is that when he scores a big one it usually ends up a great knock unlike some who might score a hundred that you wouldn’t recall 6 months later. And with Tharanga playing transformed cricket, there was a stage when it looked like SL would win without losing a wicket.
Imran Nazir was missing yet again – surely there’s a way to fit both Nazir and Jamshed in the team (Shoaib Malik). Jamshed however, seemed a nervy wreck by the end of the game after some horrid moments in the field, and looked like he needed either a break or some senior player to seriously back him like Sangakkara with Kapugedera.
Umar Akmal had played a couple of nice shots in the 2nd ODI but was tempered by the match situation then. Not only does he look eerily like his brother (better teeth however), he’s got quite a bit of Kamran’s breathtaking strokes. I remember watching an interview with Kamran’s father early in his career (when he made his place in the team vs India) and he’d said he has another son who’s a very good batsman-keeper and was therefore sure there would always be an Akmal in the Pakistan team for many years. 3 Akmals playing in form in the same team – that would make for some viewing.
Rana Naved came in mystifyingly for Gul. Apart from the hair-transplant, nothing else was new – the same ineffective stuff. Maybe I’m biased but I can’t stand the guy.

I think pakistan won the t20 worldcup as a fluke… they don’t have anything in them that makes them a good team.. it’s just a combination of 11 inconsistent players… The only solutions seems that imran khan should be made the president of the board with miandad as a chief selector…

the reason pakistan won the world cup was shahid afridi and umar gul and both have not fired in the one day series, with 20-20 a couple of performances can get you thru the day but in the longer version everyone has to put in extra effort.

When ever Pakistanis are playing with right mind-set, they are dangereous…last three games they played agaist SL is the proof…Aamir,u.Akmal are great new finds and of course Afidi is a very valuable player for Pakistan, especially for 50 and 20 overs’ games…..from U.S.A…
