Watch cricket highlights: West Indies vs Australia, the 1st T20 at Hobart played on Feb 21, 2010
Scoreline: Aus 179/8 Haddin 37 (16), Warner 49 (32), Watson 37 (19)
WI 141/8 Ramdin 44 (26), Morton 40 (41) | Nannes tait 3 each
You’d have expected the missing players from the WI squad to not make too much of a difference in the T20 format and this game to therefore be closer. But games like this only seem to reinforce talk that this doesn’t hold good if Gayle’s not firing. However, there’s been too much emphasis and discussion on Gayle because very often in cricket one team loses not because they messed up. But more because the other was better.
The most entertaining part of the game came after Australia opted to have Birt come in ahead of Haddin following the spurt of wickets. It was perfect because the brief lull in play that followed only heightened the ensuing Haddin knock.
Would have also liked to see more angles of Gayle getting back a laugh at Watson – from the one on show, Watson appeared to see the funny side too.

Does australia need to loose matches for people to enjoy the game? seems the aussie crowd are even over watching them back in form. So sad and hard to understand.
seem like wi do a good job .. lets c how the bat . ….
west indies suck . . big time .. turst me … the can bat the can faild the can catch ..but the can drink rum . and party hard . its make me wonder if the r a team. i like chris but as captain no .. the main problam WICB ..

Have you tried the direct links above each video
Poor decision to bowl spinners for so many overs at the start. One over for as a surprise element sure but 2 and 3 overs?! Then bring on your strike bowler (the only fit 1) after the batsmen are set?! Those decisions seemed like desperation instead of strategy. A similar thing may have well caused Kumble’s IPL team some matches in Champion’s trophy (Dale Steyn on the bench :s ??????)
Great game.
WI need to put more effort into their game, specially batting. I also dont like how the keep bashing Gayle. Yes – He is a player not in form, yes – he is a great player and shud be performing better .. but the only part of the order i expect to actually play shots is either him or someone lower down in the order like Ramdin. Other wise it just seems tailenders batting. You see couple of 4′s but if you actually see them in replay they are bat on ball shots.. without technique. All that asisde, the catching of WI has gotta be one of the best i have seen in a while. As of now, i dont see a huge competition between the two teams. Aussies easily outplayed WI by a long shot
btw i am nither aussie nor WI .. just impartial spectator making an opinion
lovely to watch Tait and Nannes , Brett lee can forget and close his case…even he is class.
Concurring with gazza . . .
WI fans posting comments here seem to like bashing their team for losing. They won’t acknowledge the excellent team play of Aus in putting up 9 an over and then bowling tight and real quick to get key bats out cheap, like Gayle and Pollard. And what about the superb fielding? Watson and Smithy, in particular?
Frankly, at times during this whole series (and again today), it looks like men playing against boys.
Obviously, WI has talent but talent doesn’t win games. Performance on the pitch does.
Against Pak earlier and now versus WI, Aus has always come ready to perform on the pitch.
Congrats to the Wild Thing for his Man of the Match effort, proving there’s no substitute for pure pace. Nannes wasn’t too shabby either.
wI are going to win 20-20 world cup
west indies …..poor team….they finshed………….go back and learn more how to play….

the west indies revised 15 man sqad should be, considering all injuries are cleared:
chris gayle, andre fletcher, devon smith, ramnaresh sarwan, shivnarine chanderpaul, dwayne dravo, kieron pollard, dinesh ramdin, darren bravo, kemar roach, fidel edwards, jerome taylor, soloman benn, lendl simmons and dwaine smith
then west indies west indies will be aforce to recon with………..
agree john but devon smith get out of here his time is up !
You Left out BARATH the wonder boy.
West Indies pace attack with Roach Edwards Taylor fit and hopefully Chris Jordan if the English dont poach him will be 4 guys all above 90 mph like the old days !
With young Jason Holder at 6ft 8 coming thru with Kraigg Brathwaite ,Darren Bravo Pollard and Roach Look set to become a good side.
Otis Gibson is also a great addition as coach he will sort things out.
Most People don’t sem to realise W.I were missing 7 players for this odi 20/20 seires.
Aussies can only play good at home… And that too they are playing with weakest teams in world cricket presently like Pak and WI. Lets c how they do in the Ashes…
Gayle is no fit to be a captain. Go for ChanderPaul, Sarwan or even Ramdin., even Ganga is perfect as a captain… And throw Gayle out of the team if he doesnt perform for another 5 matches…
Ramdin is a superb prospect… And where the hell is Bharath??? Bharath and Simmons should open with Gayle coming in middle order…
What the heck are the likes of Hinds n Deonarine doing in T20′s…
Bharath,Simmons,Ganga,Gayle,Sarwan (C’Paul), Pollard, Smith, Ramdin, Tonge, Roach, Miller(Benn)… This should be the team…
This should be the WI side for the T20 WC…
Bharath,Simmons,Darren Bravo,Gayle,Pollard, Dwayne Bravo,Ramdin,D Smith,K Roach,G Tonge, Taylor,(Miller, Benn, Edwards)
Pollard… what a future.. he has some raw talent that guy. Great bat, decent bowler and talent in the field.
As for the ODI / 20-20 , what an overkill of a series. I think the fans are cricketed out!
